LOVEJOY ran really well first time out this season over 7f, behind a really progressive horse of Jessie Harrington’s called Snowcapped. I don’t think she truly got home over that trip, so this move of dropping back to 6f looks a good one and I think she’ll go close.

I think LUXEMBOURG might be the value in the Tattersalls Gold Cup. Of the front three in the market, he’s the biggest price (at the time of writing) and I’d say there’s a touch of value in that. That he managed to win the Irish Champion coming off a lay-off shows there is a top-class horse there and I’ll happily give him a pass for his return run this year. While it was disappointing, it would have served its purpose and blown away the cobwebs.

With both he and Vadeni having had a prep run and coming here in seemingly top shape, we’ll see who’s the best of them here.

Joseph O’Brien has an extremely strong hand in the Lanwades Stud Stakes. Jumbly is the most fascinating based on her big money move over from England in the winter and judging on the fact she has some fancy entries.

But preference is for her stablemate HONEY GIRL, who comes here in flying form having beat Agartha – another stablemate – last time in the Athasi at the Curragh. She should go close.

The Irish 1,000 Guineas is the feature race of the day and we’ll have a short-priced favourite of TAHIYRA, who was second in the 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket. I wasn’t totally convinced by her attitude in the final furlong that day. But she has the most ability of these in this field, so she’s the most likely winner. There are a few who could get into the frame at big prices, and they include Tarawa and Aspen Grove, who finished second and third respectively in the Cornelscourt last time.

There isn't a standout horse in the Gallinule but I’ll side with KINGSWOOD. He did well when he won upped in trip at Cork las time and that form has been boosted. He’s one who will improve with racing and I think there’s plenty going for him.

STAR GALAXY is the one I like in the maiden. She was fourth to Savethelastdance at Leopards in a race that’s working out well. She’s good enough to win a maiden and this might be her best chance as she’s had a run already this season, so shouldn’t lack for fitness. The hood is going on for the first time and she’s the one to beat.

GOLDEN TWILIGHT is possibly handicapped to his best but a horse I have time for. I’ll give him a pass for his first back this season which was on ground that would have been much too soft for him. With that run under him, he’s likely to be a lot sharper this time.
