There’s not much form to go on in the opening maiden race, but there are three coming off good runs first time out who I couldn't put you off.

My feeling is that it’ll go to a well-bred newcomer, so I’m going to side with RAPID MISSION  , a newcomer from the Joseph O’Brien yard. Shane Foley is having his comeback ride, so it’d be great if he could come back with a winner.

14:15

Joseph might have a quickfire double on the card. I was impressed with his GRAND JOB  , who ran well first time out to finish second to Matrika.

There wasn’t much between them other than Grand Job has been kept fresh whereas Matrika went over to Royal Ascot, so just lacks that freshness.

I’ve got two against the field in the next race.

GORDON BENNETT   is drawn 15 of 15, which I think could be beneficial in this contest. He was very progressive last season and I’m inclined to give him pass for his first run this term where he was too keen

HALLOWED TIME   has been running well in the main since coming over from France. He has a tendency to blow the start but if he gets it right, he’s got the ability to be a player.

15:25

The feature race of the day is the Pretty Polly Stakes. ROSSCARBERY   looked better than ever when winning first time up and I think she’s improved again.

Paddy Twomey will feel like he’s out for redemption having lost the race in the stewards' room last year, so I’d say this would  have been the mare's target for a while.

The International Stakes looks all about Al Riffa. If he’s fit and ready enough to win, he’ll take all of the beating, but he’ll be a short price and he’s no certainty after a lay-off.

Alfred Munnings is also a horse with plenty of ability, so it’ll be a watching brief for me.

16:35

LORD VADER   didn’t show much on her debut for Emmet Mullins but was a real eyecatcher last time and I think she’ll go very well in the Ladies Derby.

There are plenty in with chances, including the top horse, which Rachael Blackmore rides, but Lord Vader is the one, especially with a recent change of owner, which is often a positive to note.

17:10

EXPELLIARMUS   flew home last time after getting the hang of things and you’d say that if he met the front two again, you’d fancy him to beat them. He’s clearly improving.

This race is likely to throw up a few winners and you should keep your eyes on a few. Space Age is a likable horse who’ll be winning before too long. Pink Sorrel ran well on her debut but didn’t back that up, but if she bounces back to form, she’d have a chance. The same goes for Pittsford, who did too much too soon on his debut, but is better than that.

17:40

Despite being 3lb out of the handicap, GRAPPA NONINO   is the one to side with. He won very well at Killarney last time in what was his first win on the flat. It wasn’t a bad race and he’s still at the right end of the handicap.

Considering who trains him, you’d think Galway is likely to be on the agenda, so he’ll need to be winning this to go up in the weights and get into one of the staying handicaps.
