Saturday at Goodwood
The Foxes 7/2 (13:05 Goodwood) is a horse we rate very highly, he ran with promise on his debut at Newbury in a race that worked out very well. I still can’t work out why he ran so below par at Royal Ascot. While that has tempered our enthusiasm with him, we still think a lot of him. He’ll stay further in time, but I think he can be effective at this trip for now.
Stone Of Destiny 12/1 (13:40 Goodwood) ran OK earlier in the week. He didn’t get the cleanest of passages and running back so soon shouldn’t be a problem for a sprinter. The step up to 6f should help him and, as it’s such good prize money, it’s worth throwing him in.
Valley Forge 11/2 (14:10 Goodwood) is in great form. He ran well in the Northumberland Plate, despite having a bad draw and having to be ridden more forward than we’d have liked. These are his optimum conditions, so he should be competitive.
Typewriter 33/1 (14:45 Goodwood) wouldn’t want the ground too quick, but she’s very able on her day. We’ll take a look at the track and make a call about her participation.
Chil Chil 11/1 (15:20 Goodwood) ran a good race in the Hackwood at Newbury, she ran very well for a long way but she just needed the run. Harry’s 5lb is a big help and puts her on a competitive mark to race off. Obviously The Steward’s Cup is such a tough race to win, everything needs to fall right.
Wodeton 7/1 (15:55 Goodwood) won well at Epsom last time. The track shouldn’t be a problem and can give another good account of himself.
Good Birthday 22/1 (16:30 Goodwood) is very capable on his day. He might want it a fraction slower than this, but I’m happy to put a line through his York run as he was wide the whole way.
Sunday at Chester
Frankness (14:20 Chester) shaped well at Newmarket and I think she’s improved for that. On that basis alone, she has to have a good chance.
Red Mirage (15:30 Chester) is nicely drawn at Chester. He won well at the May Festival and is another who should be there or thereabouts.
Tostado (16:00 Chester) also shaped well on his only start for us. This is a hot race, but it looks a good opportunity for him to continue his education.
Speak (16:30 Chester) has got the outside draw, which is a disadvantage but if can she overcome that, she’s got the ability to go well at this level.
City Streak (17:00 Chester) won well last time and has gone up in the handicap as a result. He’s a horse that we always felt was capable of winning a nice race. He’s on the up and has every chance.
