Goodwood runners

Cleonte never got into the right position at Newcastle last time, so I’m inclined to put a line through that run.

It was also much too soft at Royal Ascot for him but, prior to that, he seemed to be coming into form. I’m happy with him and he must have a good chance of going well in the opener (13:50).

Tactical is a Group 2 winner and has won two Listed races, so he should be right in the mix in this company (14:25). It’s a tough race, though, and he could be vulnerable against some unexposed rivals. I do think that the step up in trip could suit him.

Stone Of Destiny has got it all to do on official ratings in the King George Stakes (15:35), but it’s excellent prize money and definitely worth rolling the dice for.

He’ll need luck in running, but he’ll be doing his best work late on and we’ll be hoping that he can bring some of the pot home.

Alounak was a good winner at Haydock last time out. He’s stepping up into Graded company again here, so we’ll have to see how he gets on (16:10). The Ebor could be a nice target for him next month.

Fox Tal is stepping up in trip in the same race and I think he could be interesting over this distance. He’s bred to stay that far and I’m looking forward to seeing how he gets on.

It’s no secret that he’s not been the easiest, but I’ve always said he has plenty of ability.

Sir Henry Cotton ran well at Newbury and I think he’s on a fair mark. He’s fit and well, but I have a suspicion that he might be better when he goes over 7f (16:45).

Scampi has been unlucky not to have won this year having run some good races in defeat. The Goodwood track will suit him well and the trip looks ideal for him, so I think he’ll run with great credit (17:20).

Other runners elsewhere

Majestic Glory ran well when only beaten a neck at Newbury last time. Not only does she get the fillies’ allowance, but her main rival has a penalty to carry too, so you’d have to think she’s got every chance (15:15, Newmarket).

Hey Teacher is a big, raw horse. He ran much better on his racecourse debut that I’d expected and, if he improves again, he could have an each-way squeak (19:05, Bath).
