Goodwood runners

Youth Spirit   was obviously disappointing in the Derby and we’re still not entirely sure why. I’ve been happy with him since and you’d have to think that, on the best of his form, he could be competitive in the Gordon Stakes (15:00). His penalty won’t help him, mind.

We’ve got two runners in the Nursery race (16:10).

Robasta   won well at Ascot last time and clearly has the ability required to win a race of this nature. I don’t think his rise was overly tough and he’s got a solid chance.

Aldbourne   has been a bit disappointing but has shown more on his previous two starts than he did on his first. It’s his first start in a handicap, but he has a low racing weight and that will be a positive.

Wilderness Girl   shaped with promise on her debut at Newmarket in a race that has seen a couple of horses run well since. She must have a good chance in the Fillies’ Stakes (16:45) granted normal improvement from her first run.

In the same race, Typewriter   will be well suited by the step up in trip. It all happened a bit quickly on her debut at Windsor last week, but it would be no surprise if she put that behind her.

Newcastle runners

Imperial Force   has been a real enigma. However, his last run was his best since his two-year-old days and, if he runs to anything like his second in the Norfolk last season, then he could be very well-handicapped. The extra furlong should suit (18:55).

Rodin   had been very consistent for a while but was slightly under par last time. This looks more his bag, though, as the all-weather suits him well (19:25).

Flyin’ High   is a potentially classy horse. He was well beaten in the Betway Fairway Stakes last time but has had a break since and drops down from that Listed class to a handicap here. He’s been working well and is a dual course-and-distance winner (19:55).

Roscioli   is stepping up in trip by 2f as he’s looked in need of it the last two times that he’s run. It’s his first time in a handicap and he could be competitive on his best form (20:25).

Cadeau D’Or   has been a big disappointment this year as he showed so much promise last year. He’s had a break since his poor run at Salisbury and I hope that will have helped him. I think he’ll enjoy the track (20:55).

Epsom runners

Attache   is having his third start and there have been some glimmers of improvement from him. It’s not without reason to think he could take some place prize money (19:05).

Captain Square’s recent course experience will help him in the same race and, although he needs to step up on that, he has Will Carver’s 5lb claim to help.
