We’ve got two runners in the opening race of the day (13:50).

Bell Rock  has been pleasing me at home. He ran well in this race last year, so we know the track isn’t a problem for him. Soft ground would be a disadvantage, so we’re hoping the ground dries up.

Johnny Drama  toughed it out to win the John Smith’s Cup at York last time. In theory, he’s still well in compared to his all-weather rating. He seems well at home, but you never know how much these competitive handicaps can take out of a horse, especially coming off a break as he did.

Berkshire Shadow  has looked very talented on both of his starts to date. He was good in the Coventry at Royal Ascot and the Vintage Stakes is the next logical step for him (14:25).

He’s in great form at home, but I have no clue how he’ll take to slower ground as he’s never been exposed to it. Saying that, his sire was Dark Angel, and plenty of his progeny do handle it.

Happy Power  will love the ground. He was very disappointing last time out, but these are his ideal conditions and he’s been going well at home, so it wouldn’t surprise me if he ran into the placings in the Lennox Stakes (15:00).

Fivethousandtoone  goes in the same race. He was also very disappointing last time out but, from what we’ve seen at home, he’s very talented and, provided it’s not too soft, he could mix it at this level. It’s a bit of a recovery mission off the back of his last run, though.

Spanish Mission  wouldn’t want it any softer than good to soft ideally. He ran very well in the Gold Cup and, if they don’t get more rain, he would have every chance on the best of his form in the Goodwood Cup (15:35).

Nebulosa  is in good form at home and will like the ground. She has a slight interruption between Goodwood and Newmarket, which is why she was so flat and rusty last time. She’ll come on for that and could go well (17:20).
