After finishing second behind Tactical on his last two starts, the connections of YAZAMAN will be delighted that he’s not in the line-up for the Richmond Stakes.

A field of just seven go to post in this Group 2 over 6f and, with Yazaman finishing in front of Qaader and Admiral Nelson in previous races, there is no reason to think that form will be reversed here.

He’s a smart horse and his rider and trainer are both in red-hot form.

Four of the six runners in this race ran in the Derby, and it’s fifth-placed ENGLISH KING that I think will come out on top in the Gordon Stakes.

Frankie Dettori gave him a good ride in the Derby, letting him come home without asking too many questions. That may have given him an easier race than his rivals.

Dettori is the man you want on board on the big days, and the pair should be very tough to beat on Thursday.

Nursery races often include horses who have run well in maiden and novice contests that get a mark for what they’ve achieved, and not for the promise that they’ve shown.

I think CALCUTTA CUP has shown that he is capable of more and, off his mark of 77, I think he’ll be a good each-way price in this race.

He ran in a good race last time out at Newbury and he wasn’t devoid of promise, so I think this mark could be generous for the Andrew Balding-trained colt.
