13:45 - COME ON TEDDY (each-way)

Second pick - SOUTHFIELD HARVEST (each-way)

I love these big-field handicap hurdles. They’re great races to get stuck into and I’ve landed on a few horses, but there are two in particular that I think will hit the frame.

The first is COME ON TEDDY, who ran well in the Pertemps Final at Cheltenham last month.

We’re yet to see the best of him, but he is improving with every run and is at the right end of the handicap. He’ll get the fast-run race that he needs and he’ll be doing his best work late on.

The other horse I like is SOUTHFIELD HARVEST, who is yet to win this season but has been gallant in defeat on all three starts. He is another steady improver.

His trainer opted to bypass Cheltenham for a run at Aintree, which would suit him better. He’ll love the flat nature of the track as well as the quicker ground. He’s got good place claims.

14:25 - PIPESMOKER (each-way)

I think we’re yet to see the best of PIPESMOKER, who was disappointing last time out at Sandown Park. He hated the heavy ground he encountered that day, but he looks much fitter for this run.

Last season he ran behind both Sporting John and Chantry House, who are two of the most talented novices around.

If it all comes right for him today, he’s got a great chance of going close.

17:15 GRAND NATIONAL - ANY SECOND NOW 

Second pick - TAKINGRISKS 

The big race itself is, as ever, a lottery.

I do like the chances of ANY SECOND NOW for Ted Walsh and Mark Walsh.

He’s been campaigned for the race and showed his ability to win a race over 2m last time. The horse who finished second that day actually ran in the Grade 1 Tingle Creek in December.

Like every horse, he’ll need luck, but he’s very good on his day and has won Graded races over hurdles and fences.

TAKINGRISKS is 12 years old, but I think that plays in his favour.

He’s mature and nimble over his fences, which is what you need to win the Grand National. You need to be able to get from A to B in the shortest time.

He has also been in arguably the best form of his life this season and, if he takes to the National fences, then I think he’ll go well.

LINGFIELD

13:25 - SHECANDOO 

This looks like a fantastic opportunity for SHECANDOO to get off the mark. She has plenty of speed and can stay, which is going to be handy from her draw in stall six.

She has always been well thought of and, off a mark of 55, she is officially rated as the best horse in this race.

She has the services of Ben Curtis in the saddle and also has the visor applied for the first time, which should make a difference and she bids to shed her maiden tag.
