We didn’t have any luck at Leopardstown on Sunday, where both Canelie and Hell’s Kitchen were pulled up.

Canelie didn’t put herself in the race at any point but thankfully nothing seems amiss. As for Hell’s Kitchen, he was too keen again and didn’t jump well enough.

American Gigolo got his first win on the Flat on Saturday and we’ve got a few options now.

He’ll have to run again on the Flat to get a mark or, should the ground dry out anytime soon (which doesn’t look likely), we’ll get him back over hurdles.

Mr One More didn’t enjoy the ground at Huntingdon on Thursday and it wasn’t his true running. He’s better than that.

We’ll get to the bottom of any issues and then look to bring him back out in handicap company on better ground.

Newbury on Saturday

While there are only three runners in the two Grade 2 races, it’s always risky to give horses tough prep runs before Cheltenham.

If you’ve got to take them on in a month, then why take them on now too?

There are a number of different options and you’ve got to run your horses where you think they can be most effective.

There is certainly no shortage of runners in the Betfair Hurdle (3.35pm), where we have Misterton  .

He’s had a longish lay-off but this has been the plan ever since Cheltenham, where he ran an absolute blinder in the Greatwood Hurdle.

I feel he’s slightly the forgotten horse in the race when you consider he ran a career best in the Greatwood and won his only other start this season.

He’s in great form and although we’re a little higher in the weights, he goes there to take his chance.

He made the running for a long way in the Greatwood and is a very straightforward horse. We can either slot in if there’s some good early pace, or take it up again if needs be.

The fact it’s something like 9/1 the field shows you how competitive this is.

We’re  and we fancy our chances, so that tells you how competitive it is.

Notably, there are some unexposed horses in there like Lalor and Kalashnikov and novices have a good record in the race.

Warwick on Saturday

Lamanver Odyssey (2.05pm) just lost her action a little bit at Cheltenham last time and then fell.

She picked up a small cut, but she’s been fine since and is worth a chance in a good Listed prize like this.

She’s got a little bit to find on ratings but she’ll take her chance and hopefully she can pick up a bit of black type.

On ratings, Midnight Tour is the one we’ve got to beat, but they’ve all got to turn up and run their race so you never know.

Drumcliff  runs in the Betway Kingmaker Novices' Chase (2.40pm), which is a totally different kettle of fish to what he’s been running in the last two times.

He’s got a fair bit to find on ratings but there aren’t many runners and he’ll take his chance.

Hopefully the following race is a good opportunity for Kylemore Lough   (3.15pm) to get his nose in front.

He’s back over a trip which is more suitable and down in grade too.

Although he has to give weight away all round, being back in a handicap we’re hoping he can go very close.

I think it’s fair to say he’d be my best chance of the weekend.

Exeter on Sunday

On Sunday, Fletchers Flyer goes in the veterans’ chase (3.35pm). He’s not been the force of old recently so we’re hoping for a bit of a turnaround.

This will be his first try in this company and we think that might give him a chance as there are no unexposed younger horses on the way up.

Overall these veterans’ races provide a great option and some good prize money too.
