14.30

These opening races have been incredibly difficult to call, so I’m going for an outsider here in NEW WINDS  .

She was really impressive on debut at Newmarket, where she beat Beyond Reason  by two lengths.

A big flop at Doncaster followed, where she really didn’t settle on soft ground, but was rectified last time out as she fought on well to win at Haydock last week.

Nicely handicapped at 8-12 and with Mark Johnston’s yard in fine form, I think she’s worth a punt.

14.30 Ascot: New Winds

15.05

I can’t see CRYSTAL OCEAN losing in a bit of a depleted field in the Hardwicke.

Sir Michael Stoute’s colt has won four from a possible eight and was a superb second in the St Leger last September.

Ryan Moore has won on all three rides so far, and I think he’ll do so again here.

15.05 Ascot: Crystal Ocean

15.40

There’s two I like in the Windsor Castle, the first of which is French raider JUNIUS BRUTUS  .

The colt is unbeaten so far with two impressive five-length victories in France.

Olivier Peslier loves Ascot and could land a big winner here.

The other one I’m drawn to is another from Johnston’s yard in CHAPELLI  .

She’s also unbeaten following wins at Catterick and York that were both over 5f.

William Buick takes the ride and won this race last year on Sound And Silence, so I think this filly holds some each-way value.

15.40 Ascot: Junius Brutus

16.20

We have the big Group 1 of the week next, and I’m firmly against Harry Angel  , who is yet to win here from four attempts.

Instead, I’m sticking with last year’s winner THE TIN MAN  .

The six-year-old absolutely loves Ascot, producing some fantastic displays to win the Champions Sprint Stakes in 2016 and then triumphing over Tasleet and Limato in last year's Diamond Jubilee.

A nice warm-up run in a Listed race at Windsor last month, where he beat the likes of D’bai and Projection, was perfect preparation, and I think is a huge price to retain his crown.

16.20 Ascot: The Tin Man

17.00

I have two fancies here, in another nice handicap where we're paying out on six places.

The first is Richard Fahey’s GEORGE BOWEN  .

He's a six-year-old with 43 runs under his belt and plenty of experience in these big handicap fields.

A nice winner at York during the Dante meeting, where he sailed home by a massive six lengths, was followed by a narrow defeat at Goodwood last month.

Seb Woods brings his five lb claim on board and looks a nice each-way shout here.

The other one I like is FOOLAAD  , who actually finished second to GEORGE BOWEN  in that race at York.

He's a seven-year-old who comes into the race in as good form as anyone, notching up eight wins from his last 11 and placing in the other three.

Also experienced in these conditions and nicely handicapped at 9-2, he looks a huge price.

17.00 Ascot: George Bowen
{{::outcome.FormattedDecimal}} {{::outcome.Numerator}}/{{::outcome.Denominator}} 22/1

17.35

For the final race of the meeting, I’m going for Hughie Morrison’s FUN MAC  .

He's without a victory since his win in France last July, but produced a really good performance when runner-up in the Chester Cup last time out.

He finished fifth in this race last year, so does have experience on his side, and I think he should be hunting for a place at least.

17.35 Ascot: Fun Mac
