Epsom Derby Day: Best bets for Saturday's races

14.00 – Class 2 Handicap

I fancy the in-form POET’S PRINCE to get off to a winning start in the opener.

His form in 2018 has been exceptional (121-212) and included notable victories at Chelmsford.

Joe Fanning has an excellent record on board with three wins and two seconds from his six rides.

Proven over the 1m 2f, he should take all the beating here.

14.35 – Princess Elizabeth Stakes

I’m going to keep the faith with Roger Varian’s SHENANIGANS here.

I’ve backed this filly three times and she’s finished second on all three occasions, though there have been massive improvements.

She’s only finished outside the top two three times, the most recent being in June 2016.

Big wins at Newmarket and Goodwood last year deserve a lot of praise and, with Ryan Moore in the saddle for the first time, she can finally claim that long overdue win.

15.45 – Epsom Dash

One of the most exciting and open races of the day next and, with five places on offer, there’s definitely some each-way value to be made.

The one who’s sticking out to me is bottom weight TANASOQ .

Now trained by Paul Midgley after moving from Owen Burrows yard at the start of the year, the five-year-old is showing signs of his best form.

After a really disappointing debut at Newcastle, he’s bounced back superbly with a runner-up in a big handicap at Beverley and back-to-back wins at Ayr and Thirsk over this distance.

Experienced Jimmy Sullivan takes the ride for the first time and, considering he’s only carrying 8-0, I think he’s a good each-way bet.

16.30 – The Derby

I think SAXON WARRIOR is different class and, despite a tough draw in stall one, I think he’s going to take some beating.

But, because of the insurance provided by our offer - where you're covered up to £10 if your horse loses - I’ll go with Harry Dunlop’s KNIGHT TO BEHOLD .

I tipped the colt when he won superbly last time out at Lingfield, destroying a field that included Kew Gardens by over three lengths.

He’s proven over the distance and, if Richard Kingscote can get him out front early again, at the very least he'll offer some each-way value.
