14.00 - LINGFIELD

Top pick: Mountain Bell

Watersmeet would seem to be a safe selection on course and distance form, but there are plenty of variables to consider.

Red Verdon will have supporters, but is worth opposing on the basis of stepping up in trip in such a competitive field. Funny Kid looks held by Watersmeet.

MOUNTAIN BELL is the only horse that comes into the race fresh, having not run in the calendar year. That was a key trend prevalent across the last four winners of the race. And that should be a deciding factor in a tough opener to the competition.

Honourable mention: Watersmeet

15.05 - LINGFIELD

Top pick: Intisaab

Kimberella is the only defending champion on the card. This sprint will need plenty of luck, something he didn’t have when narrowly defeated by Kachy on February 3.

Gracious John is opposable with a profile that looks better suited to five furlongs. INTISAAB is a very interesting horse, having won in Doha last time out. He didn’t get the clearest of runs in that aforementioned race on February 3.

It wouldn’t take much for him to reverse placings.

Second choice: Kachy

15.20 - NEWCASTLE

Top pick: Snowy Winter

We cross to Newcastle for a competitive handicap where it’s going to be around 5/1 the field.

SNOWY WINTER is a course and distance winner that seems to have been written off by the bookmakers after stepping up into the tougher handicaps. Back at Newcastle she could be worth chancing for the Archie Watson stable who have a terrific strike rate on the sand this term.

Honourable mention: Island Brave

16.40 - LINGFIELD

Top pick: Master The World

The key race to focus on is the Betway Winter Derby from a few weeks ago. MASTER THE WORLD came to win the race in what looked like easy fashion before being bumped by Mr Owen. With others from the race in behind we can easily rule them out.

Honourable mention: Victory Bond
