14.25

TOP PICK: WATAN

Second choice: Pogo

A classy 7f race for juveniles, only two clear favourites have won this in the last decade.

But I think likely favourite WATAN is head and shoulders above his rivals here, whose debut win at Goodwood was very impressive on the clock and screamed of potential.

There looks to be more to come from Richard Hannon’s chestnut colt, and he’s a confident selection.

15.35

TOP PICK: POET'S WORD

Second choice: Roaring Lion

This is an incredibly valuable Group 1 contest featuring some of the best flat horses currently in training.

Six favourites have won this in the last decade, but there have been notable shocks, none more so than Arabian Queen taking this at a huge 50/1 in 2015.

A good spread of ages have won this and the prize is usually taken by a top stable.

POET’S WORD racked up a quick hat-trick recently, including success at Royal Ascot and then back at the track in the King George. He should justify favouritism here.

16.15

TOP PICK: NATURAL SCENERY

Second choice: Hochfield

We’ve kept it simple in the first two races, so we're going to have to think outside the box in order to land the big prize in the final two, starting with this stayers’ handicap.

Four and five-year-olds have dominated, taking all runnings of this race in the last 10 seasons.

NATURAL SCENERY should be capable of taking this based on his third in the 2017 Ebor.

16.50

TOP PICK: PRAIRIE SPY

Second choice: Ginger Nut

A Nursery race is a handicap for juvenile horses in their first season.

As such, it’s hard to get an angle on whether contenders for this race are well-weighted on the form they’ve shown.

PRAIRIE SPY won her first two races and has performed well for the Mark Johnston stable.

She is a tentative selection in a tough race to call.

WEDNESDAY TIPS

media

I don’t usually tip favourites on this blog, but I think Wednesday looks a day for short prices on the Knavesmire.

WATAN  will take a lot of beating in the Acomb Stakes (14.25) and is the cornerstone of my treble on day one.

CROSS COUNTER  can be trusted to seal a hat-trick in the Great Voltigeur (15.00) after breaking the track record at Goodwood last time.

POET’S WORD  can also take the International (15.35) and secure a bookmaker-punishing favourites treble.
