14.25

TOP PICK: MASARU

Second choice: Celebrity Dancer

This 6f juvenile race looks ultra-competitive according to the prices.

The Richard Hannon stable have won this on four occasions during the last decade and have likely favourite He’zanarab ridden by Ryan Moore.

They are also sending three other runners as they look to keep their stranglehold on the race.

I actually prefer what looks to be their second-string, MASARU. His four-length debut win at Windsor is some of the best form on offer in this race and I’ll take him to follow up at a nice price.

15.00

TOP PICK: FIRMAMENT

Second choice: Seniority

A mile handicap and another very open race on the Knavesmire.

All winners over the last decade were younger than seven, so we can eliminate the three older horses from our equations.

Recent draw figures tend to favour low or middle, with three of the last 10 winners being drawn in stall one.

There hasn’t been a winning favourite in the last decade, though second and third favourites account for four of the winners.

FIRMAMENT from the David O’Meara stable – who have won this in two of the last five years – is a tentative selection.

15.00 York: Firmament

15.35

TOP PICK: CORONET

Second choice: Laurens

The Yorkshire Oaks is a Group 1 race for fillies and mares and a meeting of the classic generation and older horses.

CORONET was a well-beaten third in the King George against the boys at Ascot last month.

She’s back against her own sex here and looks to have a fantastic chance under Frankie Dettori.

Laurens, who is stepping up in trip, is the main danger.

15.35 York: Coronet

16.15

TOP PICK: LAH TI DAR

Second choice: Sun Maiden

This race is over the same distance as the Yorkshire Oaks, but this one is for female horses of a slightly lower grade.

Only two favourites have won this in the last decade, with three of the last 10 winners returning at double-figure prices.

Unbeaten LAH TI DAR should win this, though.

THURSDAY TIPS

media

I fancy two horses that appear at nice prices.

The first of those is MASARU  from the Hannon stable in the 14.25. His debut was very good on the clock and the stable have a great record in the race.

The second is CORONET , who is back against her own sex in the Yorkshire Oaks at 15.35 after being highly-tried in the King George.

Back both horses in win singles and in an each-way double.
