The second day of the Tattersalls Irish Guineas Festival will take place in conditions far removed from expectations in late May, but soft ground is not a completely unfamiliar occurrence for the fixture.

Jet Setting downed the mighty Minding in wet conditions in 2016 and Marvellous took the race on heavy going in 2015, so it is not unprecedented.

The Tattersalls Irish 1000 Guineas goes to post at 15:15 and, while it is her seasonal debut, the Joseph O’Brien-trained PRETTY GORGEOUS  is fancied to oblige in a race the trainer never won as a jockey.

Pretty Gorgeous has soft ground form when taking the Fillies’ Mile last season and can add the name O’Brien onto the roll of honour again.

There is little form to go on in the opening Tally Ho Stud Maiden over six furlongs at 13:30, but HEART TO HEART  was the most expensive of these at auction, costing 580,000 guineas at Tattersalls as a yearling. He is by the late Zoffany so is trusted to handle the going in a tricky race.

The Group Three Heider Family Stables Gallinule Stakes at 14:05 is a race Aidan O’Brien has an excellent record in having trained the winner 12 times since 2004. HECTOR DE MARIS  can continue that strong trend. He wasn’t beaten far in the Epsom trial and should progress from that with heavy ground form already in the book at Naas last year.

Broome will look to continue his winning streak this season in the Group One Tattersalls Gold Cup at 14:40. While it will be no surprise if Broome does win, an each-way selection is SUNCHART .

He chased home Broome in similar conditions at Naas and has race fitness on his side, he has always been a likeable sort and can expose and fitness concerns among many of those ahead of him in the market.

In the Betway Handicap over 10 furlongs at 15:50, BRIGHT IDEA  jumps off the page.

She won an ordinary-looking maiden in Killarney last time out for which she is unpenalise,d but on her previous run she finished second to subsequent Group One winner Champers Elysses. Off a mark of 83 with form on soft going she ranks as one of the better bets on the card.

The Irish Stallion farms EBF handicap at 16:20 can go the way of the Lincoln winner, LAFAYETTE . Noel Meade’s gelding has only gone up 6lbs for a quite comprehensive that day in similar conditions and can repeat the trick here.

The Betway Maiden over 10 furlongs at 16:55 looks a tricky heat.

Joseph O’Brien won this race last year with subsequent St Leger winner Galileo Chrome. He could repeat the trick this time round with DRACONID , in his mother’s colours. Draconid was second to the impressive Probe when last seen and can take advantage of his race fitness to take this race.

The Guineas festival closes out with Heed Your Hunch At Betway Handicap over two miles at 17:30. The Willie Mullins-trained FOVEROS  looks a well handicapped horse.

He won on soft ground at Galway so should handle conditions and as a 136-rated hurdler could be well treated off a flat mark of just 65 leaving him carrying just 8st 6lbs.

We don’t have a bumper, but this is pretty close so should do as we would all winter long and back Willie Mullins.
