The jump season is really starting to take off over in England and this weekend is the first of many consecutive weekends of top class jump action with the best of the action coming from Ascot and Wetherby.

Ascot

I think Goshen will get beaten in the opener. I like the look of Cobblers Dream (13:30) on his debut over fences. He was very progressive over hurdles. He was a good winner of the Lanzarote and was a gallant second in the Martin Pipe at the Festival. He was over the top by Aintree but he’s a smart horse and gets plenty of weight.

Anyharminasking (14:05) is the only horse to beat Constitution Hill so he must be one to watch. He’ll have to be winning this to take his chance in the Greatwood Hurdle at Cheltenham next month.

In the same race, the Nicky Henderson-trained Broomfield Burg who was a good third at Chepstow last time will appreciate this drop back in trip. They’re the two I think will take all of the beating in the Handicap Hurdle.

Nassalam (14:40) runs well fresh, and I’d thought last season that he was improving. I think he’ll progress again this season and should be competitive, in what looks a really hot contest for the grade.

I’ve narrowed it down to two in Ascot’s feature race (15:15). Our Power did little wrong last season and his trainer thinks he’s got him very fit at home.

Tea Clipper is the other one. He’s had the benefit of a recent run, will also be tough to beat. He was running in some good races last season.

Wetherby

I love the Charlie Hall meeting at Wetherby (15:35). It’s their best meeting of the year and this race has thrown up some great winners in the past. This clash between Bravemansgame and Ahoy Senor is mouth-watering and I love both horses.

I think they’re both grand horses who will be competing at the top level all season. I just think at this stage in the season, Bravemansgame will be fine-tuned to win this and then go on to the King George, which has been his plan for about 18 months.

The other horse I think will be fit enough to win first time out this season is Molly Ollys Wishes (14:25). She won this race last year in easy fashion, beating Marie’s Rock in third and we know what she went on to achieve last season. This would have been her early season target.
