Katie Walsh: We've got it all going on at Navan on Sunday
The Betway ambassador previews a busy programme of racing on Sunday at Cheltenham and Navan.
Cheltenham on Sunday
The Shloer Chase (13:45) looks like a cracker. This weekend, we’re going see so many races on the road to the Betway Queen Mother Champion Chase. I was really proud of Edwardstone when he won the Arkle last season. He made rapid progress last term and improved no end. He was beaten at Aintree by a good horse and it was at the end of a long season. I think he’ll get the better of Nube Negra, especially getting weight from him.
The Greatwood Hurdle (14:55) is always a competitive race and, while I don’t fancy one specifically, I do think you have to make note of Emmet Mullins sending Thousand Tears over. He hasn’t achieved much over hurdles, but Emmet has a great way of improving horses and there’s been a huge move from him in the market this week.
I also think that Current Mood will go well for Evan Williams. She was good last season, and her recent prep run would have put her spot on for this. They know what it takes to win a race of this calibre.
Navan on Sunday
I’m looking forward to sitting on the sofa and watching the racing on Sunday and while the racing at Cheltenham is good, the card at Navan is super with the two races below looking tasty.
The Lismullen Hurdle (13:55) is a cracking race, we’ve got it all going on! Bob Olinger didn’t seem to truly love fences last season, so I’m glad they’re going back over hurdles.
He’s got tough opponents including Stayers’ Hurdle winner Flooring Porter. Gavin Cromwell’s horses are in good form, he had a good winner at Cheltenham on Friday. When you add Zanayhir into the mix, it’s a quality race and I can’t wait to see how they all get on.
Ferny Hollow (14:30) is back! He was so exciting last season. I hope he comes back in the same form. If he does, he’s going to be a machine this season. I’d love to see him live up to the expectations of him and continue on his road to the Betway Queen Mother Champion Chase.
