It’s a pretty quiet weekend this week as it always is in the final few weekends before Cheltenham.
Kelso have a great card with good prize money and it’s good that plenty of the southern trainers are showing support with their runners.
I do think Nells Son 10/1 (13:32) is pretty good and he could run into a place in the Grade 2 Novices’ Hurdle. He’s slowly learning the game and this race is wide open. His trainer Nicky Richards wouldn’t be running him if he didn’t think he had a chance.
Dingo Dollar 7/1 (14:40) was a good horse when he was with Alan King and has shown he’s still got plenty of ability for Sandy Thomson this season in two runs. Things have to fall right for him but he stays all day and can pick up the pieces late on.
I was impressed with the way Cormier 7/1 (15:15) won at Cheltenham last month. He seems to have been around for ages, but he’s only six and could be really starting to get the hang of things now. He’s got no weight on his back, and that’ll help in this competitive handicap.
Paul Nicholls has a really good record in the Greatwood Handicap Chase (13:50) ; he’s won five out of the last 10. I think he’ll go very close again with two. Tamaroc Du Mathan 5/1 hasn’t been the same horse this season, but we’ve seen him run close to Shishkin and he’s looking well handicapped now.
Amour De Nuit 11/1 is his other horse, the mount of Bryony Frost sluiced up at Musselburgh last time and I bet this has been his target since.
