It’s the last recognised weekend for Cheltenham Festival trials, with the main bulk of the English action coming from Kempton Park.

The Adonis Hurdle (13:50) looks wide open and Knight Salute  is four from four.

Impulsive One  is improving quickly, there are two unknown quantities over hurdles from the Paul Nicholls’ yard.

You’d be mad to rule out Moka De Vassy  , who ran well behind Pied Piper at Cheltenham last time out. It’s a grand little race and I’m sure we’ll be seeing some of these in either the Triumph or the Boodles Hurdle in just over two weeks.

Donald McCain and Brian Hughes are having some season, aren’t they? They’re having winners left, right and centre and I think Minella Drama  can give them a Grade 2 success in the Pendil (14:25). He’s improved massively for fences this season and I love the way he did it at Haydock last time.

Russian Ruler (15:00) looked the winner until the last at Doncaster on his debut over hurdles. He travelled well and probably just ran out of puff. He’s always been held in a high regard at Seven Barrows, so it’d be no surprise to see him improve and take some prize money back to Lambourn.

Pheonix Way  (15:37) is still lightly raced for a nine-year-old, but he’s been in good form this season.

He wasn’t beaten far behind Annsam  in December and was good when he won the next day at Ascot. He’s a good horse with good form in the book, so I think he’ll run well in this race.

The Eider Chase at Newcastle (15:15) is a proper staying chase. You need stacks of stamina and it’s often testing conditions too. History Of Fashion  is being sent over by Peter Fahy which is an eye-catching declaration.

He won well at Down Royal last time and is clearly a strong stayer. He must go well as they won’t be coming over for the experience.

At Fairyhouse, Icare Allen  (14:00) can put a slightly disappointing effort last time behind him and go close under Mark Walsh. He was very good prior to that and is still a horse of huge potential.

Any Second Now  runs in the Bobbyjo Chase (16:18). He’s got six weeks from here to the Grand National, which has been his season long target. It won’t be easy giving Burrows Saint 8lb though, but as long as he gets around safely and keeps the Grand National dream alive, we’ll be happy.
