Leopardstown

Glan has been ultra-consistent this season and was only beaten a neck in a good race at Fairyhouse last time. She’s got up 4lbs for that run, but that’s probably very fair on what she achieved. Gordon (Elliott) will have a strong had in this as his other runner, Party Central looks like she’ll playa huge part in the finish too.

Galopin Des Champs was explosive on his debut over fences. Everyone has been talking about it. If you haven’t seen it yet, go back and watch it. He was very professional and jumped like a stag. He’s got to prove it wasn’t just a flash in the pan, but the vibes coming from the yard are that he could be very, very good. I’d love to see him take on Bob Olinger at Cheltenham on his next start.

Chacun Pour Soi was hugely disappointing in the Tingle Creek at Sandown in December. He was lame the day before he went to run at Leopardstown at Christmas, so we’re yet to see him win this season. However, can you really oppose him on what he’s done in this race previously? He’s won it for the

Birchdale never lived up to the hype he had when has was a novice with Nicky Henderson, but there’s plenty of horses who don’t. It’s obvious he’s always had an engine though; those trainers are rarely wrong when they think they have a good once. He’s now with Enda Bolger and might start improving, especially as he’s only eight. He was a good sixth in a competitive race last time and has no weight on his back.

What more can be said about the wonder-mare that is Honeysuckle? She is just out of this world and unless she underperforms, she will be winning another Irish Champion Hurdle. She’s a winning machine and nothing I’ve seen can get close to her over two miles. I’d love her to be going back to Cheltenham still undefeated to defend her Champion Hurdle crown.

Three Stripe Life was unlucky the last day and I’d say Davy Russell gave him an educational ride; he didn’t get too hard on him when the race was lost.

There is plenty of room for improvement in him as she’s still lightly raced, and I think he could have the beating of Sir Gerhard who is obviously very, very good himself. It’s going to be a fascinating match-up between two very good horses.

Get My Drift caught my eye when he was a good third at Leopardstown over Christmas and is very likely he’s still improving. Mouse (Morris) never rushes his horses and this gelding might be coming into his own now.

The Mares Bumper is another race full of potentially very good horses. Harmonya Maker routed her rivals at Punchestown last time and had clearly come on for her debut second, where she’d made up lots of ground during the race.

Pink In The Park was also brilliant on her debut and the same could be said for a few of these, but I do like the extra race experience that Harmonya Maker has.
