It’s a pretty quiet weekend for jump racing, but it often is in between Cheltenham and Aintree.

I like the look of Cap Du Nord  as he goes back over hurdles at Kelso (14:05). He’s been in good form this season over fences and is rated 5lb lower over hurdles, so it could be good placement by his shrewd trainer. Jack Tudor takes 5lbs off him, too.

Newbury on Saturday

Misty Whisky (15:25) was a good second in the Lanzarote Hurdle at Kempton two starts ago and wasn’t far away at Sandown on her latest start too. I think she’s reasonably well treated off her mark of 124 and this race may have been the long term plan for her.

It’s going to be exciting to see the relation to Douvan, Jonbon  make his debut for Nicky Henderson in the bumper (17:45). He cost a good few quid (£570,000) and was very impressive on his only start when he won a point to point for Elle-Marie Holden.

If he hadn’t that experience under his belt, he may have found it tough against a few winners, but he’s had a run and he could be very, very good.

Limerick on Sunday

Mr Coldstone  travelled well for a long way at the Dublin Racing Festival. He didn’t pick up as well as his jockey would have hoped, but I was encouraged by the way he moved. He won on his debut over hurdles for Willie, and I expect him to go well here (14:35).

Yukon Lil  was a good third behind Elimay last time out. She’s a smart horse. I remember riding her in her bumper and Black Tears, who won the Mares’ Hurdle at Cheltenham last week, was second. She’s probably a class apart in the race (15:10) and should take all of the beating under Paul Townend.

Chatham Street Lad went very well for a long way in the Marsh Chase at the Festival. He was bang in contention coming down the hill but just couldn’t go with the very class Chantry House. This is more winnable (16:20) and I expect him to make amends for his Mick Winters.

Belle Metal  absolutely sluiced up on her debut and has since been purchased by Kenny Alexander, who owns Honeysuckle and other good mares. He likes buying promising fillies and mares and this one looks another from that mould. She could be too good for them all here (17:30).
