Katie Walsh: My horses to watch at Kempton and Leopardstown
The Betway ambassador picks out her fancies for Sunday's racing, as well as her 4 To Win picks.
Kempton
I think everyone in racing is looking forward to the return of Shishkin in the Wayward Lad Chase (13:20). He’s a really smart horse with plenty of potential who I think can climb the ranks. Look, he’s going to be a short price, but he was awesome to watch on his chasing debut and I hope he is just as awesome again this time.
From the same stable, Altior runs in the Desert Orchid (14:30). On ratings and on what we know of him, he’s head and shoulders above his rivals – who are good by the way – but he is one of the best two milers we’ve ever seen. He needs to be winning this if his dreams of going to win another Betway Queen Mother Champion Chase are going to come true.
Leopardstown
There is some superb racing at Leopardstown again. While we’re going to see Altior at Kempton, we’re going to see Chacun Pour Soi here in the 13:10.
He’s still got to come out and do it for me, as I wasn’t impressed with him last time out. He won, but he didn’t look to glide over the turf like he has done previously - it looked hard work. But, that said, he’s a very good horse and maybe he just needed the run.
In the Grade 1 Novices’ Hurdle (13:45), I like Ballyadam who possesses so much natural speed. He’s been a bit of a talking horse as he arrived with a huge reputation, but he’s won his two races over hurdles so far, so you can’t crab that. He’s got a tough opponent in Appreciate It, but I think he’ll just prefer going 2m 4f in time and might be tapped for toe.
4 To Win picks:
14:20 Leopardstown: Pike County
14:55 Leopardstown: Dunvegan
15:05 Kempton: Adrien Du Pont
15:40 Kempton: Cadzand
