It’s a cracking card at Wincanton on Saturday. The Rising Stars (14:35) is always an exciting race where you see the chasing stars of the future, and I know that Paul Nicholls targets his better novice chasers at the race.

Only three horses have been declared for the Grade 2, but it looks a competitive race on paper.

Despite the fact he’ll be short in the betting, Grand Sancy would be the one that I like. He was so impressive on his debut over fences the last day and was the best of these over hurdles too. Paul loves having winners at his local track and I think he’ll have another in this.

I’m hoping that Sceau Royal turns back the years in the Elite Hurdle (15:00), a race he won in 2016 before he went over fences.

I was really impressed with him at Ffos Las recently, when he won the Welsh Champion Hurdle. He travelled very well and stayed on best of all and I think he really appreciates a fast two miles, which is what you get at Wincanton.

The Badger Beers Chase (15:35) is always a good race and, again, is one that Paul Nicholls seems to always win!

He’s won it five out of the last 10 years and has won the last three on the spin. Although I think he’s got another strong hand this year, I do like Kitty’s Light  who has sneaked in at the bottom.

His rider, Jack Tudor, is one of the most promising young jockeys around. I think if he gets into a good rhythm he won’t be too far away.

Christian Williams is a really shrewd trainer, too.
