We’ve had a quiet period, but this is our busiest week of the season so far with runners nearly every day.

Looking back over Christmas period

The Kings Writ (Brian) won just before Christmas at Exeter. He ran really well and it was nice to see him get his head in front after the unfortunate incident at Chepstow.

We thought there was some mileage in his handicap mark and he’s now up another 7lbs to 131. We’re thinking about going to Cheltenham on Trials Day for the Grade Three handicap chase.

I know he’s done most of his running on soft ground, but we don’t think he needs a bog. He should go on any ground.

The horses had an easier time over Christmas. They were really fresh in the new year and we had a few wild ones on our hands.

Clondaw’s Answer went to Chepstow on Welsh National day. He wants further really, he was flat out the whole way so we’ll be stepping him up in trip.

Really pleased with Lalor

Lalor is in really good form, he’s done some lovely pieces of work recently. He’s ticking along, looks great and has been squealing and bucking every day.

We’re really pleased with him at the moment.

The plan is still the Lightning Novices’ Chase at Doncaster at the end of the month, although we’ll need some rain. As long as it’s genuinely good ground, he’ll be fine.

If it’s too quick, he’ll go straight to Cheltenham, and I wouldn’t be worried about the gap between races. He’s always gone well fresh.

Teresa was a very good girl

We were delighted with Goodgirlteresa at Ffos Las on Monday, she did it really well.

It was exactly what we thought we’d be able to do with her when we got her in the summer. We thought she’d improve for a bit of soft ground and fences.

It’s nice when it’s that easy.

She’s entered at Chepstow on Friday. We’ll see how she is nearer the time and then make a decision.

The way she won we’ll have to think about it, because the handicapper’s not going to be overly impressed with us.

Busy week for the yard

The week started perfectly on Monday and we’ve got runners every day apart from Tuesday, so it’s going to be all hands on deck.

Millanisi Boy goes to Plumpton on Wednesday for the veterans’ chase (15:10). He’d want it softer ideally but he’s in very good form.

I think he’ll run well, I’d just be a lot more confident if it was softer ground. The weather isn’t playing ball this season, hopefully the rain will come soon.

Shelcomeonfordrun could head to Ludlow on Thursday for a maiden hurdle (13:45), but we’ll see how the entries are shaping up before making a decision.

She won a point-to-point very easily last month and this will be her first start under rules for the yard. We bought her at the Doncaster sales in the summer.

She’s a full sister to Grade Two winner Abbey Lane. We’ll see how she does over hurdles and we’ll then take it from there.

Caspers Court will go to Chepstow on Friday or Saturday for a novices’ hurdle. He’s a big baby and this will be another part of the learning curve.
