Lalor has been absolutely fine, and is on course to run in the Maghull Novices’ Chase on Saturday.

He galloped well earlier in the week and looks great. He loves the warmer weather, so it’s nice that spring has arrived.

We took him to Philip Hobbs’ on Wednesday morning and he schooled nicely under Dickie Johnson. We were all very pleased with him.

I suppose everyone is a bit apprehensive about Saturday because of what happened at Cheltenham.

He seems in great form, it’s just a bit worrying if you can’t find a reason for underperforming.

We don’t know if it was a mental thing, we certainly couldn’t find anything physical.

He went to Aintree last year on the back of a disappointing run last time, so we just have to hope he can bounce back again.

I’ve had a look at the race and it looks as though it’s going to be a fairly small field, which we think will suit.

We’re going to ride him a bit differently. We’ll give him plenty of daylight over the first few and ride him fairly prominently.

We’ll just try to get him into a good rhythm over the first four. He got left a bit after the standing start at Cheltenham and things just didn’t go to plan after that.

At the start of the season, this race was the main target. His best performances for the past two seasons have come at Aintree, so let’s hope for a re-run.

He’ll go up there on Friday with Twinkle, our Shetland pony. He’s always stayed up there the night before in the past and he’ll do a little canter on Saturday morning.

I absolutely love Aintree, it’s my favourite racecourse.

There’s a great atmosphere. It’s quite different to Cheltenham and it’s always a good night out in Liverpool.

I’m looking forward to enjoying it this year, last year was quite stressful.

Floresco back over fences

Floresco  runs at Taunton on Thursday (16:25) and is back over fences.

He schools very well at home and the better ground should suit. He got a bit stuck in the mud at Chepstow the last time he ran over fences.

There weren’t really any hurdle races we could find for his handicap bracket so we thought this was worth a go.

If he can get a soft lead in front, hopefully he will show a bit of form.

Grand National

I haven’t gone through the National properly yet, but I’d love to see Tiger Roll win it. He’s been such an incredible horse and it would be a great story.

From a personal perspective, it would be lovely if Rock The Kasbah could win it for Dickie, or Walk In The Mill for James Best.

I use them both whenever I can and they are both top-class jockeys.

Walk In The Mill was impressive when winning the Becher Chase in December and he could be one to have a few pennies on each-way.
