We’re going to take Lalor to Exeter for a racecourse gallop on Saturday morning.

He’s in really good form and this will be the biggest piece of work he has done in a while as we begin to ramp things up ahead of Cheltenham. It will be nice to have Dickie [Richard Johnson] sitting on him again and hopefully it all goes well.

We then plan to school him at Philip Hobbs’ yard next week again with Dickie on board. We had a quiet period with him after he missed the race at Doncaster, but it’s all systems go now as we build up to the Arkle.

The warm weather seems to bring out the best in him and he really comes alive in the spring which obviously bodes very well.

The Arkle is looking like a great race with Glen Forsa so impressive at Sandown last week. He obviously did it very well, but the conditions will probably be slightly different at Cheltenham and I suppose you could say Kalashnikov didn’t run his race either.

You couldn’t not be impressed by him, but we’re just concentrating on our lad and we’re very happy with where he is.

Busy week coming up

It’s been a quiet week for the yard but, the way things are shaping up, we should have plenty of runners next week.

Our only runner this week is Shelcomeonfordrun at Exeter on Friday (15:10). She won her Point-to-Point for the yard but will need to find some more from her last run at Ludlow. We'll know a bit more about her after tomorrow.

Looking further ahead, Millanisi Boy will go to Ffos Las on Tuesday along with Dorrana, while Floresco and The Major will head to Wincanton on Wednesday.

Millanisi Boy obviously isn’t getting any younger and was pulled up at Plumpton last time, but that was off the back of a long lay-off and he’ll have come on plenty for that. He’s in good form at home and we should see a much better performance this time round.

Considering it was her first time on a racecourse, I was thrilled with the way Dorrana ran at Exeter in December. She did best of all the fillies and ran with plenty of credit. She’s another who should come on heaps this time around and I’m hoping for another good performance.

Floresco has been running well but can be a tricky little monkey. He won at Wincanton on his last start there, so we’re hoping a return to familiar surroundings might bring about the best of his enthusiasm. 

We were a little frustrated with The Major at Taunton last time, so we are going to try different tactics and make the running over two miles. Hopefully a more positive ride will see him return to form.

The Kings Writ could run in the Kim Muir

The Kings Writ will join Lalor at Exeter on Saturday morning. We’ve entered him in the Kim Muir Hanidcap Chase at Cheltenham Festival on 14 March which, fingers crossed, he gets in to. He’s off a mark of 130 and Millanisi Boy got in off lower last year, so with any luck he does, because I’d be pretty hopeful of a big run. 

He ran really well at Cheltenham last time and the form of that race looks very strong, so I’d like to think he can be competitive off his current mark.

He also holds entries at Sandown on the Saturday before, so we'll choose the best race for him nearer the time.
