We went up to Doncaster for the sales on Wednesday and I wanted to see what the track was like for myself.

It was frozen in places! I know it’s due to warm up but the ground is still going to be pretty quick.

The weather hasn’t helped anyone, they’ve been watering it for quite a while just to maintain it and we don’t really want to be running Lalor on watered ground in the middle of winter.

It’s just not the same as good ground at Cheltenham in the spring, for example.

I had a good chat with Dickie [Richard Johnson] and his owner David Staddon on the way home from Doncaster and we all agreed that the best plan is to go straight to Cheltenham.

As I’ve said before, we know he goes well fresh and his form in the spring has always been very good.

He’s in great form, he did one of his best pieces of work this season last Friday, so it’s a shame that we’re not going up to Donny, but we don’t think it’s worth the risk.

We’ll now just focus on training him for the Arkle and hope he gets there in one piece and in great form.

Time for The Kings Writ to step up in grade

I’m really happy with The Kings Writ  ahead of the Grade 3 handicap chase at Cheltenham on Saturday (13:50), but it’s a big step up in grade.

He’s been very progressive this season and it’s the right time to try him at a higher level.

He’s just a lovely horse to train. He’s so consistent and absolutely loves his work. He spends most of his time in good form rather than bad which is what you want with any horse.

I know he’s never ran on ground as good as this before, but I don’t see any reason why he won’t go on it.

Another addition to the team

We were really happy to buy another horse for the Kayley Woollacott Racing Club at Doncaster on Wednesday.

Lester Kris had some fairly good form for Richard Hannon on the Flat and, although he hasn’t won a race yet, we hope we can find a way to get his head in front at some point.

I’m hoping a step up in trip and some softer ground will do the trick. We’ll spend a few weeks getting to know him and then make a plan from there.

There are still shares available, so don’t be shy if you fancy owning part of a horse.

Goodgirlteresa, our first in the Racing Club has won two races now, so it’s been a pretty good start!
