This weekend sees the Betway Summer Celebration take centre stage with a two-day festival at Sandown Park.

The highlight of the fixture is undoubtedly the Betway Solario Stakes on Saturday, which boasts a remarkable recent roll of honour.

Last year’s winner, Too Darn Hot, was crowned the champion two-year-old of last season. Masar won it in 2017 before taking the Derby the following year and Kingman was the victor in 2013 before an amazing three-year-old career where his only defeat came in the 2000 Guineas.

This time around shouldn’t disappoint, with plenty of early entries catching the eye.

Of those, Positive  heads the betting following his staying-on second at Goodwood behind Pinatubo.

Al Suhail  has attracted plenty of early support for the Charlie Appleby yard following his victory in a maiden at Yarmouth while, among the others, Visinari , Kameko  and Eshaasy  really stand out in what could be one of the better two-year-old races we’ve seen so far this season.

Friday is made up of a six-race card with the feature race, the Play 4 To Score At Betway, attracting a select but competitive 15 entries which include the very promising Tempus from the Roger Charlton stable.

This half-brother to Time Test was narrowly beaten on his debut in October last year but is two from two this term including an all-the-way success at Haydock last time out on heavy ground. He certainly has the makings of a very good horse.

Before that race, we have the Betway British EBF Maiden Stakes – a race that has attracted 42 early entries and that has been won in previous years by Almania (2018), Stormy Antarctic (2015) Time Test (2014) and many others who have gone on to further success.

Among those entries is It’s Good To Laugh, who is trained by Clive Cox and managed to finish second over course and distance on debut behind Kameko, who looks like being aimed at the Solario Stakes by Betway ambassador Andrew Balding.

Other notable names include King Carney, Fruition, Montanari and My Frankel, who all either look the part on pedigree or have caught the eye on their first start. Don’t be surprised if many hold their ground and this race splits into two divisions.

The opening race on Saturday is the Play 4 To Score At Betway Handicap – a dash over 5f that takes place in the centre of the Esher course.

It would be great to see the early entrant Justanotherbottle  take his chance following his effort in the Great St Wilfrid at Ripon recently.

It often pays to follow low draws in Sandown Park sprints as they tend to bag the far-side rail, offering an early advantage. However, having said that, the past few winners of this race were drawn in stalls 8, 7, 14, 10 and 8 again.

The shoulder race on the card is the Betway Atalanta Stakes, a thrilling battle of the fillies and mares.

Currently heading the ante-post market is the Sir Michael Stoute-trained Jubiloso . He comes here off the back of two thirds: one at Goodwood behind Billesdon Brook in the Oak Tree Stakes, and another before that in the Group 1 Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot.

Frankie Dettori looks likely to partner Duneflower , a winner of a Listed race at Ascot last time out, while Jim Crowley looks set to be aboard Lavender’s Blue , who achieved a great second on her second career start at Newbury behind Queen Power before finding the Oaks too much.

She has been given a break since, but it would be wise not to forget the promise she showed earlier on this season.

All in all, with the weather set fair over Surrey this weekend, we could be in for a superb weekend of racing.
