Two trebles

I certainly can’t complain about the last couple of days thanks to two trebles at Exeter and Fontwell.

It was nice to be back racing at Exeter on Tuesday, it’s a course that Philip Hobbs does well at. They were all short prices, but it’s good to see them come out and win.

Sternrubin did it nicely and Bradford Bridge certainly seems better than last year. It’s nice to see them run well.

Fontwell was also a great day and I was particularly impressed with Darlac who won very impressively. He’s a smart horse to watch out for.

We still need rain

Everyone is waiting for the rain.

I was at Olly Murphy’s on Thursday morning and we schooled 42 horses at Warwick. They’re ready to go but it’s just been too dry. Warwick have done a really good job watering the old Flat course so we can work there.

Cheltenham on Friday

It’s lovely to have Cheltenham back and everyone says it’s in great condition. The weather has been frustrating for everyone and I’m sure there will be some horses who would have liked to run who can’t. They do a good job with the watering there, though.

I’ve got three rides on Friday, including two for Gordon Elliott, and it’s nice to be riding for him at Cheltenham. He’s been very helpful this summer.

First up is Make My Heart Fly  - who has been in fantastic form this summer - in the novices’ hurdle (2.00pm).

She’s a typical filly in that she’s really bloomed and found her confidence. I’m sure Cheltenham wasn’t on the agenda three or four months ago but she’s earned her chance.

She was second in a Listed mares’ race in Ireland two starts back and with her mares’ allowance she really comes into this on ratings.

That run in Ireland puts her bang in the mix and she looks to have a decent chance at the weights.

I’m on High Expectations  for Gordon in the handicap hurdle (3.10pm). I won on him at Sedgefield last month and he’d run well at Perth before that.

The faster they go the more it will suit him. He’s in good form and has an each-way chance in what looks a very competitive race.

My final ride of the day is Thomas Darby  for Olly Murphy in the maiden hurdle. He won a bumper at Huntingdon in May and he seemed well when I schooled him on Thursday morning.

This will be his first start over hurdles, he’s got it all ahead of him and this is a nice place to start.

We hope he’ll be in the mix, although you’d expect a few of these to be quite smart. Let’s hope he can put up a good show.
