Obviously the helicopter crash involving Leicester City and King Power Racing owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha is an absolute tragedy.

It’s very sad and everyone’s thoughts are with all of those on board and their families and friends.

First Cheltenham winner for Olly Murphy

Whether you’re a jockey or a trainer, it's always special to get your first Cheltenham winner, so I was really pleased for Olly Murphy at Cheltenham on Friday.

Hopefully Thomas Darby is just the first of many for him. He’s got a lot of nice horses and he’s had a very bright start to his training career.

As for Thomas Darby, it was his first start over hurdles and he did it nicely. He was green but still finished the race off really well, so it all bodes well for the future.

Saturday double at Cheltenham

Winning the three-mile novices’ hurdle by 14 lengths was obviously a great performance by Dinons. He’s a nice horse of Gordon Elliott’s and looks to be improving all the time – hopefully there are some big days ahead for him.

As for Cubomania, who won a four-runner novices’ chase over two-and-a-half miles, he’s improved a lot and is getting better all the time.

It will now be interesting to see how the form of the race works out because I don’t think he would want it too much softer.

The top got quite wet and sloppy but it was still OK - nothing like what it could be like in a few weeks’ time.

Elsewhere on Saturday, it was a good seasonal reappearance from West Approach.

Colin Tizzard’s horses are in very good form and he did everything nicely. He was maybe a little bit enthusiastic at the first few fences, but overall it was a very pleasing performance and I think he has a decent handicap in him somewhere.

Gumball jumped and travelled well, but maybe isn’t quite at his best just yet. He’s only a four-year-old and I’d like to think there’s plenty more to come.

Sunday winner at Aintree

Stoney Mountain made his reappearance a winning one. He’s a very nice horse. He has plenty of ability and a great attitude.

Hopefully he gets even better through the winter, too, as he handles soft ground and stays very well. I think he’s a nice horse for the future.

Lygon Rock bumped into a nice horse in the two-and-a-half mile handicap hurdle. He’s one to follow going forward. He could go for another handicap over hurdles before going chasing.

Polydora took well to fences and jumped nicely on his chasing debut. That run will bring him on a bit and he should be out again in the next few weeks.

The week ahead

Everything is a bit uncertain at the moment, as we just don’t know where or when the rain will arrive.
