It was obviously fantastic to notch up a four-timer at Wetherby on Saturday. It definitely made the trip up there well worth it.

I’ve had three or four during my career, and I was fortunate that most of my rides handled the testing conditions.

Wetherby on Saturday

Noble Robin travelled and jumped really well, in a similar way to his win at Ffos Las.

He looks like a nice horse for the future and should definitely come into his own when he jumps a fence next season.

It was nice to get a win for Jamie Snowden with Hogan’s Heights in the novices’ chase, too.

Jamie’s horses are in great form and I was lucky enough to get the inside track from Gavin Sheehan, who told me exactly how to ride the horse.

He really ground it out and has clearly taken to fences well.

He is another who looks to be going the right way and he should make a nice staying chaser in time.

Westend Story was the main reason we went to Wetherby and he got the job done nicely in the handicap hurdle.

I’ve always been pretty sure he’s a very talented horse and unfortunately last year just didn’t go quite right for him.

His run at Carlisle gave him a lot of confidence and the way he did it on Saturday was what we have always expected from him.

He’s still a novice and while I’d expect he’d go for another handicap, we’ve got plenty of options to choose from.

I’d like to think that wherever we go next, he would take a further step forward.

We’ve always seen him as a three-mile chaser and I’d expect we would step him up in trip with a view to going down that path next season.

You’d like to see him at Cheltenham in something like the Pertemps, but as he’s still quite an inexperienced horse, we could end up going to Ayr or Aintree.

My final winner was Newberry New and I was impressed with how straightforward he was.

He took a good step forward from his win at Uttoxeter and was another who thrived in the testing conditions.

The more I asked of him, the more he gave and he capped off a great afternoon.

It was obviously unfortunate that So Lonely got touched off in the bumper - I’ve never had five winners in a day

She did everything well, though, and will be one to look out for in a novices’ hurdle next season.

It was frustrating not to get a fifth winner but I can’t complain and I was lucky that everything else seemed to fall my way.

Classic Chase at Warwick

Missed Approach ran well off top-weight in what was a very competitive race.

I’m sure they’ll be another similar race for him later in the season and he’s definitely going the right way.

Though the winner, Milansbar, didn’t complete in the Welsh National last weekend, going half the way round on that ground and then coming back so soon after to win is a great effort.

It was good for Bryony Frost to notch up another big Saturday winner and she is going from strength to strength.

She got a great tune out of the horse and it’s certainly not the last time we’ll be seeing her in the winner’s enclosure.

Lanzarote Hurdle at Kempton

William Henry was impressive. Nicky Henderson's horses are clearly in very good form at the moment.

It was fantastic for James Bowen to notch up another big race winner and he is one we are going to be hearing about for many years to come.

Pony racing has been a real boost for home-grown jockeys, and the likes of Bryony and James show how important the initiative has been.

I think it’s definitely a reason why there is more strength in depth in the weighing room and it’s got younger British jockeys on their feet, which can only be good for the future of racing.

Things are getting more and more competitive and it’s a really exciting time to be a jockey.

All of these young jockeys want to learn and we are always on hand to give advice if needed. To be honest, I’m not sure James needs much based on how well it is going at the moment.

Looking ahead to this week

Tidal Flow is entered at Newbury on Wednesday, while Copper Kay is entered at Ludlow on Thursday.

Copper Kay schooled really nicely last week and I’d be hopeful she’d improve on what she’s done so far this season.

Tidal Flow was impressive in the bumper at Newbury last time and you’d expect he would improve for that run.

Rock The Kasbah looks like he will go to Haydock on Saturday for the Peter Marsh.

This was always the plan after we missed the Welsh National and he is definitely one to look forward to.
