It’s been a good week with a few winners. It was nice to pick up a double from just two rides at Wetherby on Wednesday. That certainly made the long trip worthwhile.

Ffos Las on Saturday

My first ride of the day is Woolstone One in the mares’ maiden hurdle (2.10pm).

This is her first start for Emma Lavelle after moving from Harry Whittington’s yard.

She has some good bumper form on soft ground, so hopefully the conditions won’t be a problem. It’s sure to be pretty testing at Ffos Las.

The big race of the day is the Welsh Champion Hurdle (4.25pm) and I was lucky enough to win it 12 months ago with Garde La Victoire.

I’m on Ozzie The Oscar this time and I hope that he’s still improving. If he can repeat the form of his third in the County Hurdle last March he will have a chance, but he is 2lbs out of the handicap.

Philip Hobbs’ horses are running well and, even though most of his form is on a sounder surface, the ground will be pretty wet so they should get through it.

This looks a really strong renewal with The New One, Sire De Grugy and Clyne in there.

I’ve always thought The New One’s best form is early in the season and, although he’s got to give weight all round, he’s going to be hard to beat.

He’s got a decent claimer in Zac Baker, who takes 5lbs out of the saddle, while the ground shouldn’t be a problem.

Sire De Grugy is a former Betway Champion Chase winner and he’ll love the ground, so you certainly can’t rule him out, getting weight from The New One.

I had some fantastic days for Colin Tizzard in the Brocade Racing colours on Native River last season and I’m hopeful I can ride another winner for the connections on Bramble Brook in the handicap chase (5.00pm).

He’s yet to win, but has been second on his last two starts. I actually finished in front of him at Stratford earlier this month.

The ground shouldn’t be a problem, as he’s by Kayf Tara and is a big chasing type.

He’s fit and well and looks sure to run a decent race. Fitness counts for a lot at this stage of the season, especially on soft ground.

My final ride on Saturday is Al Dancer in the bumper (5.35pm).

His owner, Dai Walters, who also owns the course, will be there, and it would be nice if we can make our way to the winners’ enclosure.

Al Dancer has a good pedigree and Christian Williams has done really well so far in his short training career. His horses are always well prepared and hopefully this one has a decent chance.

Kempton on Sunday

First up on Sunday is New Agenda for Paul Webber in the Listed novices’ hurdle (3.15pm).

He won well at Huntingdon last time and I was lucky enough to win on him at the same track back in May.

He clearly likes going right-handed, as he’s run well at Kempton before, and the good ground should be ideal.

He has a little bit to find on ratings, but it looks an open race and he should run well.

Braavos goes in the handicap chase (3.50pm). He didn’t stay 2m6f at Stratford last time, so we’ve decided to drop him back to 2m2f.

He jumped well in that race, but faded badly. He’s a horse we feel we haven’t seen the best of and hopefully he’ll put up a bold show.

My final ride of the weekend is Upbeat Cobbler in the 3m handicap chase (4.50pm).

He’s been well beaten on his last few starts and I just feel he needs to come down in the handicap a little.

Congratulations to Silvestre de Sousa

It’s every jockey’s dream to become champion jockey and I’d like to congratulate Silvestre de Sousa for winning his second Flat title.

You have to work really hard to achieve it and he deserves it after a phenomenal season.

Magic Six for Gordon

It was an amazing achievement by Gordon Elliott to have six winners on the card at Punchestown on Thursday, especially at a big meeting like that.

He’s a brilliant trainer and it just goes to show the strength and depth in his yard.
