The Autumn Stakes is a really hot Group 3 race and it looks like the best renewal for some years.

The last four winners of this race are Military March, Persian King, Ghaiyyath and Best Solution, all of which are owned by Godolphin. This year Godolphin have two main hopes in One Ruler  and Dhahabi , both of whom have attractive profiles.

It’s hard to split them both, but the former shaped as if he wanted this mile trip sooner rather than later. He’ll be the tentative pick over his owners other representative, who was a good second at Newbury last time and has been kept fresh for this race.

This race has been won by a three-year-old in five of the past seven renewals and I think Spirit Dancer  can continue that trend.

He was a big eye-catcher on his debut at Wolverhampton almost a year ago to the day, when he managed to finish third despite being green. We then didn’t see him until August, when he was narrowly beaten by Ilaraab , but showed plenty of promise.

He won on his next start on soft ground at Ripon and was only narrowly beaten at Ayr last time out. He had a good battle that day and that will have toughened him up, the experience won’t be lost on him.

Last weeks winner, Iconic Choice  has only been put up 3lb for her success in a competitive race. She can go close again.

The Sprint Trophy is always a tough race to find the winner of.

The ground has started to change and some of the horses have had long seasons, but one thing that has been consistent in recent years is that a low draw has paid dividends.

Aplomb  has always been very well thought and this season has looked as if it’s starting to come together. He’s still only four but has run in plenty of the big sprint handicaps both this season and last season. Of late, it appears he’s getting it together.

He had slipped to a very handy mark before he won well at Ripon last time out and I think he can progress again. He’s won on soft ground, so will handle the conditions and has Paul Hanagan on board, who rides York very well.

Mr Lupton  has been a revelation this season, despite being a seven-year-old, and it’d be no surprise to see him go very close.

The second leg of the Autumn Double is the Cesarewitch Handicap, over 2m2f. The lay out of the Newmarket Rowley Mile course means that this race starts in Cambridgeshire and ends in Suffolk!

In the last few years this race has been won by National Hunt trainers who have got a good hurdler who is well handicapped, and it looks like that could be the case again this year.

Willie Mullins has won this race for the past two years and saddles last year’s 10th Great White Shark  , who was a good winner over hurdles at Galway in August. She’s a strong travelling horse who will love the soft ground and last year’s winning rider Jason Watson has been booked for the ride.

David Pipe is yet to win this race, but his father Martin managed to win it twice in both 2000 and 2002 and Leoncavallo , who looks very well handicapped, could give David his first success in the race. He’s been kept fresh for this since bolting up at Haydock in soft ground earlier this season.
