The Gillies Fillies’ Stakes is a competitive contest with 14 horses declared for this Listed race over 1m 2f.

Trainer Ralph Beckett, who has won this race twice in the past 10 years, has a very strong hand with three unexposed and improving three-year-olds.

Of those three, TREFOIL 8/1 would have the most appeal. She had a break of 87 days before her recent comeback run at Newmarket, where she finished fourth in a Group 3.

If she is ridden with a little more restraint, she could be bang there at the finish.

Despite having plenty to find on official ratings, Kaleidoscopic 20/1 was a very good winner over course and distance two weeks ago. While she is only rated 86, this is just her seventh career start and she is improving.

The November Handicap is a big-field staying handicap and caps off the flat season in the UK.

SAM COOKE 6/1 has been well backed all week and finds himself at the head of the market for Ralph Beckett and Rob Hornby.

He’s drawn high and loves soft ground so you can make a good case for him, especially with his yard still flying at the moment.

Further down and also drawn high is Torcello 18/1, who was a very good second at Newbury recently.

This horse looks as though he’s been campaigned for this race and that recent prep run would have put him spot on for this. He ran in some good races over hurdles last season and I expect him to go back into that sphere after this race.

15:35 WINCANTON

I’m a massive fan of CHAMPAGNE COURT SP in the Badger Beers Chase.

He was good in his first season over fences last year and ran well at Cheltenham in both January and March.

He won a couple of races over fences including at Sandown on this very weekend last year and goes well on most grounds. He also ran very well at Cheltenham a couple of weeks ago in a hurdle race which would have put him spot on for this.

Danny Whizzbang SP was impressive when winning a race at Newbury last season and I’m sure he’ll be winning big staying chases soon, but he may just need the run first time up.

16:30 CHELMSFORD

The opening Nursery race on the card at Chelmsford is wide open, with a mix of both exposed and unexposed types. While there are positives and negatives for both, I do like two unexposed and lightly-raced horses.

NURSE FLORENCE SP has only had three starts and hasn’t been without promise on any of them, but has been off for 117 days since a run at Windsor. That Windsor race has worked out very well and, if she runs to a similar level, she’ll be tough to beat under Adam Kirby.

Lucky Ava SP has also run well in her three starts and caught the eye when finishing well at Kempton last time. She’s rated 56 and could be a little better than that mark.
