11:45 Lingfield – Poetic Force (each-way)

Poetic Force looks like a cracking each-way bet in the opener at Lingfield. He loves this racecourse, often runs very well there and is a course-and-distance winner.

He’s dropping in the handicap and, following a good run at Wolverhampton last time, he’s one to keep on-side.

In five of his nine career wins, he’s been top weight, which proves he likes to concede weight to lesser horses than receive weight from better horses. Elisha Whittington takes off a valuable 5lb and I can see the pair of them going very well.

15:00 Kempton – Cape Gentleman (win)

On what is a rare runner at Kempton Park for Emmet Mullins, Cape Gentleman should take all of the beating in the Dovecote.

This is nowhere near the strongest renewal of this race. He’s still lightly raced so there is still room for improvement, but it’s worth noting that he won the Irish Cesarewitch on his second start for his yard.

He bolted up on his debut over hurdles at Punchestown and was then plumped into Grade 1 company at the Dublin Racing Festival, albeit over 2m6f. He travelled well for a large portion of the race but clipped a hurdle down the back straight and was pulled up not too long after.

His connections wouldn’t be bringing him over for this race unless they though he had a real chance of winning and on that form alone, he’s the one they all have to beat.

15:35 Kempton - Soupy Soups (each-way)

He’s going to be a massive price, but I can’t let this horse go without being mentioned. He’s definitely one for the spring and the summer as he loves good ground, but he gets his ground in February and his connections have let him take his chance.

He’s got plenty of experience and, while he was disappointing last time out, it was on soft ground. He ran well for a long way at Cheltenham Festival last season before pulling up. If he runs like he did for a large period of the that day, he could sneak a place.

18:30 Chelmsford – Shecandoo (each-way)

This is a step up for Shecandoo but I don’t think that’ll count against her. Her running style is to come from behind. I think going into a race like this, where they may go quicker earlier, could play into her hands.

She’s yet to win but has been eye-catching on most of her career starts to date, she just needs some luck. Dropping back to six furlongs won’t be a problem and Tom Eaves gets on with her well.

15:15 Newcastle – Big River

He’s a dour stayer, who has some very good placed form in the bag in recent years. This looks as though it’s been his target all season. He’ll be doing his best work late on in this energy-sapping contest.

15:35 Kempton – Al Dancer

He's a talented horse who has a preference for quicker ground. He’ll be at home on the conditions and has plenty of class on his day.

16:10 Kempton – No Hidden Charges

This is his first run back since wind surgery and he has the talented Millie Wonnacott taking 7lb off his back. He’ll love the better ground he gets here and he has run well on all of his starts at Kempton.

16:25 Newcastle – Seemorelights

There is still more to come from this lightly raced nine-year-old, who was a good third at Ayr last time out. He’ll love the conditions and is at the right end of the handicap.
