14:45 ASCOT

Starting with the Cunard Handicap at Ascot, I’m keeping faith with Roger Varian’s SPANISH CITY  .

The five-year-old has been pretty consistent in big handicaps this season with a nice win at Doncaster in June, two big runs on this course in the Victoria Cup and the International and also a valiant second in the Bunbury Cup.

He looks to be best-suited to this 7f trip and, with a nice middle draw and carrying 8-9, I think he’s got a good each-way chance once again.

Another each-way fancy is CLIFFS OF DOVER  for Paul Nicholls and his daughter Megan.

The versatile five-year-old has had success over both jumps and flat with victories in the Betway Stayers’ handicap at Lingfield in July and a Grade 2 triumph in the Summit Juvenile Hurdle back in December 2016.

He was a very impressive winner here last month over 2m when powering home by 12 lengths, which suggests the drop back to 1m 6f shouldn't be an issue.

Nicely handicapped at 8-8 and with Megan’s 5lb claim in the saddle, this is a great price.

16:15 HAYDOCK

The big Group 1 Sprint Cup is up next, and I’m going against favourite Harry Angel with THE TIN MAN  .

James Fanshawe’s six-year-old has a marvellous CV, with Ascot triumphs in the 2017 Diamond Jubilee and 2016 Champion Sprint Stakes and an impressive third here last year in horrendous conditions.

So far this season he's put in a valiant effort to finish fourth in the Diamond Jubilee, where he could have gone even closer if Tom Queally had found room slightly earlier, and followed that up with a nice third in a Group 1 at Deauville last month.

A jockey change bringing the in-form Oisin Murphy on board could be what he needs to get back to winning ways.

16:30 ASCOT

We'll finish off with a Class 2 at Ascot, where I’m going for REBEL STREAK  to complete a hat-trick.

The three-year-old won his last two handicaps with ease – both times by over two lengths – and has beaten the likes of Captain Jameson, Lady Dancealot and Staxton.

He’s had one previous run on this course when he finished second over 6f in July last year.

Proven over this distance and with the in-form Jason Watson taking the ride, I think he’ll be right in the mix.
