14:25 ASCOT
CHAMPAGNE AT TARA has won his last two in commanding style, and I expect him to complete the hat-trick here at Ascot.
The nine-year-old took a while to get going but has hit his best form since the turn of 2018 with those two wins, a second and third from six runs.
His victory at Aintree was particularly impressive, sailing home by eight lengths, and I think he’s got a great chance to win again here.
14:40 WETHERBY
This is a slightly disappointing Charlie Hall Chase with Thistlecrack and last year’s winner Bristol De Mai both late non-runners.
I think that leaves BLACK CORTON in the best position.
The seven-year-old was magnificent last season, winning eight from a possible 12 including five on the bounce.
I tipped him when he won the Kauto Star on Boxing Day and he followed that up with a super Grade 2 victory at Ascot.
Ultimately, the long season took its toll as he disappointed at Cheltenham and Aintree but, fresh for the new season and with the reliable Bryony Frost on board, he’s got a great chance.
15:15 WETHERBY
The Grade 2 West Yorkshire Hurdle is up next and I’m going to keep faith with Evan Williams’ CLYNE .
He's a consistent eight-year-old with six wins, three seconds and five thirds from 17 runs, and career highlights that include a respectable third in the 2017 Betfair Hurdle and a runner-up to The New One in the Welsh Champion Hurdle.
He got back to winning ways in March over 2m 3f at Uttoxeter and put in a decent performance to finish third in the Betway Aintree Hurdle in April.
The step up to 3m will be his biggest challenge, but I still think he’s a nice price.
15:35 ASCOT
We'll finish off with the Grade 3 Gold Cup Chase at Ascot, where I’m going for veteran KINGS LAD to land a big win.
The 11-year-old has been in great form for Colin Tizzard having won three of his last four and has a big win here in 2015 when he beat Traffic Fluide and Village Vic over 2m 3f.
Proven to stay the distance and with Betway ambassador Richard Johnson on board for the first time, he looks a tasty bet.
