13:15 Ascot - Honey Sweet (each-way) 

The opening contest at Ascot is the 7f Pat Eddery Stakes and although this race is often won by a colt, I think it’ll go the way of a filly this year.

Honey Sweet is one from three in her career, but ran well on both starts where she was beaten and looked like a step up in trip was needed. 

Being a filly, she gets a fillies’ allowance, which could make a huge difference. Her yard is in good form and I expect her to go well.

16:25 York - Monsieur Lambrays (each-way) 

It took a while for Monsieur Lambrays to work out what was racing was all about, but once he’d got his head in front at the ninth attempt he did kick on and improve.

The Tom Clover-trained five-year-old was clearly a slower learner, but he did seem to learn that he liked fast ground, and it’s only since he’s been stepped up to marathon trips that he has looked like more of the finished article.

After hitting a career high mark of 92, he’s now back down to a mark of 86, which is just 2lb higher than his success in this race last year on rattling quick ground. If the ground stays dry, I think he’ll end up having cracking place prospects.

16:50 Newmarket - Cairn Gorm (each-way) 

After winning his first three career starts, Cairn Gorm was highly tried in two Group 1s and a Group 2. Despite being well beaten in both Group 1s, he did run well in the Group 2 race, which shows the level of natural ability this horse has.

This season, he’s run well on both occasions, including when running on strongly in a hot handicap over course and distance last time.

He likes conditions and, in a smaller field, looks as though he could run into a place.
