Horse racing tips for Doncaster St Leger on Saturday
With money back as a free bet if your horse finishes second in all ITV races, Chad Yeomans selects his three best bets from Saturday's racecards, including the St Leger Stakes at Doncaster.
13:15 DONCASTER - LA PULGA
Trainer Roger Charlton is having a good season with his juveniles and La Pulga is another who can keep up his strike rate.
The two-year-old, rated at 88, is two-from-four this season, with excuses for his other two defeats. He’s a strong travelling horse who will be suited to Doncaster’s straight galloping track, and it’s a positive that Champion jockey Oisin Murphy is booked.
15:35 DONCASTER - YOUTH SPIRIT (EACH-WAY)
Admittedly, the odds-on favourite Hurricane Lane is going to be very difficult to beat, as he looks head and shoulders above his rivals on form.
There is very little to split the majority of those in behind in the market but, at the prices, there is no way that Youth Spirit should be where he is.
Trained by Betway ambassador Andrew Balding, the son of Camelot has run some very good races in defeat in the top Leger trials and has finished in front of some of his rivals who are a third of his price.
He’s got the ability to get placed at the very least.
14:05 BATH - TRAIL HAWK (EACH-WAY)
The market is often a very informative guide in Nursery races, especially with horses who are still learning their trade and are generally still improving.
Trail Hawk is a horse who has caught my eye on a number of occasions. On his debut, he ran in a good maiden at Ascot and travelled well, despite running green. He then backed it up with a good fifth at Newbury in another hot contest, having travelled well and made up ground before faded in the final furlong.
He’s stepped up in trip to 1m here and has the application of blinkers for the first time, too.
It wouldn’t surprise me if he ran very well off his opening mark of 72 for a trainer with an 18 per cent strike-rate at Bath. Additionally, if you’d backed all of Brian Meehan’s horses at bath to a £1 level stake, you’d be £19.79 in profit.
