13:50 HAYDOCK

I’m a big fan of Paul Nicholls’ CLIFFS OF DOVER  and, after a mixed campaign on the flat, he can hopefully bounce back here.

The five-year-old is six from a possible eight over hurdles with the main highlight a Grade 2 victory in the 2016 Juvenile Hurdle at Doncaster.

His last appearance over obstacles was last February, when he was far too keen and pulled up in the Betway Kingwell Hurdle.

Some decent All-Weather success was followed by a 12-length victory here in August over two miles. Well-handicapped at 11-4, I think he looks a nice price.

14:05 ASCOT

Gary and Jamie Moore came good for me last weekend with Baron Alco, and I think they could cause a slight upset in this Grade 2 with BENATAR  .

He’s unbeaten here after victories in a novices’ handicap in November 2017 and a Grade 2 course-and-distance triumph over the late Finian’s Oscar a month later.

He was a bit out his depth in the JLT at Cheltenham Festival, and also didn’t settle on heavy ground at Newton Abbot last time out, but is back in conditions he should relish on Saturday.

Politologue – whose record away from Cheltenham is nothing short of exceptional – is clearly the main danger, but if Jamie can get BENATAR   into a nice rhythm then he has a decent chance.

I was at Cheltenham last weekend when FIRST ASSIGNMENT   sailed home by nine lengths and was very impressed.

He travels like a dream, with big victories over large fields at both Cheltenham and Huntingdon, and is also proven over three miles.

Paisley Park looks the main danger, but having a massive 12 lb over him could be the deciding factor in Ian Williams and Tom O’Brien achieving more success.

14:35 LINGFIELD

We'll move over to the All-Weather now for a Betway sponsored race, where Archie Watson’s superb CAPTAIN LARS  looks set to get back to winning ways

The South African-bred nine-year-old has been superb for the young trainer, with nine wins and five seconds from 26 runs.

He was narrowly beaten by Jashma last time out but does have Thomas Greatrex taking off 5 lb on Saturday, which could be enough to get him his first win since September.

What a race this is.

I was absolutely ecstatic when Native River won the Gold Cup, but I think revenge for MIGHT BITE  is more likely than a repeat here.

The King George winner finished four lengths behind in the Gold Cup after a titanic battle, but responded emphatically with a seven-length rout in the Betway Bowl, beating Bristol De Mai and Clan Des Obeaux with ease.

He’s a magnificent jumper, will have no issues staying, and will absolutely love the conditions, so I think this could be the perfect start as he bids for a Triple Crown.
