Saturday racing tips: Kodi to keep winning

Visit Betway's horse racing betting page.

There is plenty of big-race action across the UK and Ireland on Saturday, though the effects of Storm Betty may change the dynamics of some races if there’s substantial rainfall.

We have a selection in the big handicap of the day plus one in a Group 3, along with one other in Ireland.

ARREST @ SP  (Newbury 1.50)

MONSIEUR KODI @ SP  (Ripon 3.15)

TURBULENCE @ SP  (Curragh 5.10)

Kodi to keep winning

At Ripon, the William Hill Great St Wilfred Handicap is the feature and, as usual, this big-field 6f event looks fairly wide open. Those drawn higher have tended to hold sway in recent years but with the prospect of significant rain falling to ease the ground, those drawn lower should have more of a chance.

Richard Fahey has won this twice in the last 10 years and his representative MONSIEUR KODI SP could defy stall number two under Connor Beasley. This son of Kodiac has been running consistently well this season and coped well with testing ground when winning the Coral Stewards' Cup consolation race at Goodwood last time.

He has been raised 3lb but that is manageable and Betway are paying 1/5 each-way for the first six home, so he looks like a cracking each-way selection. Live In The Moment is 4lb better off with the selection from that Goodwood clash and is a danger but has never won over 6f. Course specialist Bay Breeze and recent York winner Cairn Gorm are also feared.

Arrest to return to best

The opening contest at Newbury is the Group 3 Betvictor Geoffrey Freer Stakes and this can provide ARREST SP with a chance to get his career back on track after underperforming in the Derby and King Edward VII Stakes.

Both those events were on unsuitably quick ground and the return to an easier surface should allow him to get back to his best.

It shouldn't be forgotten how impressive he was on soft ground in the Chester Vase, slamming subsequent dual Group 1-placed Adelaide River by 6 lengths. Trained by the Gosdens and ridden by Frankie Dettori, If he is even nearly back at that level, then he should be able to take care of main danger Kemari.

Turbulence to get compensation

At the Curragh in Ireland, the Group 2 Coolmore Stud Futurity Stakes is the joint feature race and the beautifully-bred Henry Longfellow should follow up his course and distance maiden success and enhance his 2,000 Guineas prospects.

However, he is a short price and a more attractive bet on the card is in the Holden Plant Rental Handicap. TURBULENCE SP, trained by Ross O'Sullivan and ridden by Chris Hayes, has endured luckless passages in his last two starts but the open expanse of the Curragh on easy ground should suit him better and he can make amends for his supporters.
