Saturday horse racing tips for York, Newcastle and Newmarket

14:45 YORK

We kick things off with a very open handicap at York and one who should be in with a shout is Richard Fahey’s PADDY POWER .

The six-year-old has shown some of his best form this season, with two wins from six, and also put in respectable runs at Thirsk and Salisbury.

A C&D winner last June in a field of 18 was impressive and - nicely handicapped at 8-4 - the six-year-old should have an each-way chance.

15:00 NEWCASTLE

In the Northumberland Vase the one that sticks out to me is MICHAEL’S MOUNT .

He had a decent season over jumps last year, winning two from four, and was also third in the Dovecote Novices’ Hurdle in Grade 2 company.

He dug in nicely two weeks ago to win at Pontefract over 2m 1f.

Kerrin McEvoy has been in superb form lately and he can hopefully give Ian Williams a second win in three years in this race following London Prize’s victory in 2017.

15:15 NEWMARKET

We go across to Newmarket next for the Criterion Stakes, where I think GLORIOUS JOURNEY is the one to beat.

He won here on debut two years ago and his biggest highlight last campaign was a Group 3 triumph at Deauville.

His seasonal reappearance was promising as he finished a length behind Diamond Jubilee runner-up Dream Of Dreams and was over a length ahead of The Tin Man.

That’s a huge form boost in this field, so he is definitely the one to beat.

15:35 NEWCASTLE

We finish off with the Northumberland Plate and I don’t think KING’S ADVICE has done anything to put us off him.

He’s unbeaten in six trips so far, all at different courses, so he’s certainly impressed under Mark Johnston.

His previous two appearances were particularly impressive, as he beat Frankuus and What A Welcome at Ripon and Goodwood respectively, and he is nicely handicapped at 9-1.

Joe Fanning has been on board for all his rides, but PJ McDonald takes the mount here to try and continue that unbeaten run.
