13:30 YORK

The opening leg is a handicap over 1m2f, with recent Chelmsford winner Ritchie Valens heading up the early market.

He was always doing enough at the finish but did get slightly outpaced in the early parts of that race, which leads me to think that he’ll need to go up in trip.

ULSHAW BRIDGE , however, has plenty of good-placed form in the book from last term. He was flying at the end over a mile at Haydock on his seaosnal comeback and returns to the track where he was successful as a juvenile.

His trainer James Bethell has hit the woodwork a few times of late, but it shows his horses are running well.

15:00 NEWMARKET

The July Stakes is the race of the season so far for two-year-olds.

Betway ambassador Andrew Balding saddles Windsor Castle winner TACTICAL , who must take all of the beating if he runs a similar race to Royal Ascot.

He jumped, travelled, quickened and stayed on that outing, looking way above average. A few from in behind him that day are re-opposing and, of those runners, I’d say James Tate’s Victory Heights would be able to get closest to the Queens runner this time.

He was getting the hang of things late in the Windsor Castle, and flew towards the end, but he still needs to improve to beat Tactical.

15:35 NEWMARKET

The three-year-old handicap over six furlongs has attracted a max field of 20 runners, with DANCIN INTHESTREET  at the top of the current market.

He’s still well-handicapped and has flown at the end of both of his two starts this term. Last time out, he was making up lots of ground on Art Power, who has since won a Group race in Ireland.

If he reproduces that run, he’ll be very tough to beat under Cieren Fallon, who claims 3lbs.

I also think that Golden Dragon will run a huge race for Stuart Williams and Jim Crowley.

He has some of the best form in the book as a two-year-old, which includes beating a horse called King’s Lynn, who went on to win a very valuable sales race at Doncaster afterwards.

He was narrowly beaten in the Group 3 Cornwallis Stakes, despite not having the best of luck in running.

He ran in the same race as Dancin Inthestreet at Ascot but was drawn in the middle of the track, which proved to be a negative. He stayed on towards the end of the race and, in his optimum conditions, he could be hugely overpriced.

17:20 YORK

The final leg is a competitive handicap over seven furlongs.

The Andrew Balding-trained FOX PREMIER  must surely run better than in his very disappointing performance at Royal Ascot, when he finished last. He’s clearly better than that, but he was keen in the early stages and has the addition of a tongue tie here.

On the basis of some of his best form from last season, he must have a really good chance of hitting the frame under Champion Jockey Oisin Murphy.

So Beloved runs off his lowest turf mark for some years, and if he retains any of his old ability he could be well-handicapped.
