Thursday horse racing tips for Doncaster and Haydock
Our expert reveals his best tips for one race on the second day of the Doncaster St Leger festival, and two contests at Haydock.
13:30 HAYDOCK
Society Queen has been short of luck this term but has some good form in the book from last year, including two good efforts in competitive races at Chester.
It’s worth remembering that as a two-year-old she won two of her four starts and even beat Que Amoro, who has improved no end and finished second in a Group 1 at York last month.
Society Queen is likely to be a big price, but if things drop her way she could well outrun her odds, especially off her current mark of 67.
14:10 DONCASTER
The May Hill Stakes is often a good race for future stars.
This renewal may lack the depth of previous years, but I do think it has star potential in Zabeel Queen , who was so impressive on her debut at Ascot in July.
Her connections have made no secret about how highly they rate this filly, and the race she won at Ascot has worked out very well, with numerous horses coming out and winning and others running well in defeat.
She needs to win this to maintain hopes of being a Classic contender next year, and I think she will take all of the beating on a track where her trainer does so well.
16:40 HAYDOCK
Despite being expensive to follow, Evening Spirit does show ability in her races. On her two starts this season, though, she’s shown that ability all too late.
She’s a well-bred filly who looks sure to appreciate this step up in trip to 1m, and her current mark of 72 looks as if it could be made a mockery of.
She should be getting placed in a race of this depth, at the very least.
