13:30 CHELTENHAM – THE GLANCING QUEEN SP
The opening contest at Cheltenham should be a relatively straight forward task for THE GLANCING QUEEN, provided she’s not over the top at the end of a long season.
She was a very good fifth in the Mares’ Novice Hurdle at the Festival and ran well prior to that in a Grade 1 and a Listed contest.
In this race, she is simply the best horse.
13:50 NEWMARKET – JUMBY (each-way) 5/1
Eve Johnson Houghton had some nice two-year-olds last season, but JUMBY was the one who took my eye the most, even with two defeats from three starts to his name.
He was well-backed and a good winner on his debut at Ascot, and then wasn’t disgraced at Newbury on his next two starts, travelling well on both occasions.
With a winter on his back, he’ll have strengthened up and could be better than this mark of 95.
16:10 NEWMARKET – JOHN LEEPER (each-way) SP
This novice contest could end up being a race that is looked back on as above-average, as it looks very good on paper.
Three winners all have a penalty to carry, which is why I like the once-raced JOHN LEEPER, who finished fourth on his debut at Doncaster.
He’s well related and will want further than this in time, but while I expect him to be ridden with restraint, I think he’ll be doing his best work late on. Ryan Moore takes the ride for Ed Dunlop.
4 TO WIN
14:40 Cheltenham – Bourbon Beauty 6/1
A good winner at Newbury last time out. She’s still improving and is at the right end of the handicap.
15:35 Newmarket – Akmaam 11/1
A ready winner on his debut at Ascot and not disgraced on his second start in a Group 3 on soft ground. He’ll appreciate the better ground.
15:50 Cheltenham – Liberty Bella 3/1
She escaped a rise for her easy success at Warwick last time. This is much calmer waters than most of her previous starts and she could be too good for her rivals here.
16:45 Newmarket – Bullace SP
A winner in two of his three starts as a two-year-old. Looked to want further and will have plenty of improvement in him.
