13:50 Newmarket – Dazzling Dan (each-way)

The Pam Sly team wouldn’t have thought Dazzling Dan would end it last season on a mark 13lb lower than he started.

But sprinting handicappers rely on luck and things falling right for them in races and throughout a season. Dazzling Dan is five now, but wasn’t well-beaten on any of his starts last season and, despite not winning, does find himself very well handicapped this season.

He’s got some very good form in the book and seems to act on any ground, too. I think he could run well if he’s fit enough.

14:25 Newmarket – Tactical (each-way)

The Free Handicap is always a competitive contest.

Naval Crown sets the standard from his win in Dubai last time out, but his previous form isn’t the strongest and he could be worth taking on.

Betway ambassador Andrew Balding-trained Tactical was a good winner at Royal Ascot last season. He was also very good when he followed up in the July Cup a month later. He ran well in the top two-year-olds' races despite things not falling right, but he could go even better on his first run of the season back on better ground.

Royal Scimitar  is also better than his form suggests and if there is money for him, it could be telling.

16:40 Kempton – Adace (each-way)

This race looks an ideal opportunity for Adace to break her maiden tag. She is a five-raced maiden now but has run well on a number of occasions, including last time out. She got away very slowly and had plenty of ground to make up, but she made up a decent amount once the race was lost.

She has been dropped a further 2lb and runs off a mark of 54 here, which may underestimate her natural ability.

4 TO WIN

14:05 Cheltenham – Pym

He's better than he showed last time out and a return to better ground will suit him. The addition of cheekpieces can also bring out some improvement in him.

14:40 Cheltenham – Java Point

He’s been a slow burner but is steadily improving and was a good winner last time. He’s at the right end of the handicap.

15:35 Newmarket – Love Is You

She won both of her starts as a two-year-old and looked above average in doing so. She’ll have to win this if she’s going to be given her chance in the 1000 Guineas.

15:50 Cheltenham – Aaron Lad

He has run well here in the past and was a good fourth on his comeback run last time out. Cillin Leonard is good value for his 7lb claim, too.
