There's no shortage of racing in Britain and Ireland on Wednesday with six midweek meetings taking place on the flat.

The highlights are a brace of Listed races from Salisbury, including the British EBF 40th Anniversary Upavon Fillies' Stakes, while further action comes from Beverley and Yarmouth in the afternoon and there is evening fare from Gowran Park, Ffos Las and Kempton (AW).

We have three selections to follow on Wednesday, including one for the Gosden team and Oisin Murphy in the feature race at Salisbury.

Selections

Running Lion  (16:30, Salisbury)

Skukuza  (15:35, Yarmouth)

Berry Edge  (16:50, Beverley)

Lion and Murphy can roar in Salisbury feature

Oisin Murphy had quite the affinity with Roaring Lion and he's now partnering some of his progeny.

They include the talented RUNNING LION, who seeks a second Listed win of her career in the British EBF 40th Anniversary Upavon Fillies' Stakes over a mile and a quarter at Salisbury.

The John & Thady Gosden-trained filly scored for the first time in this grade at Newmarket (1m2f, soft) in May when routing her rivals in the Pretty Polly Stakes and, in doing so, taking her winning sequence to four.

That was her first attempt at this trip and her only run since came in the French Oaks at Chantilly in June, when a sub-par effort that can be forgiven. She has had a break since and her sights are now lowered.

Caernarfon ought to prove popular in the betting after Jack Channon's filly produced fine efforts in Group 1 defeats in the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket, the Oaks at Epsom and the Nassau at Glorious Goodwood this season.

However, in the midst of those efforts she was slightly disappointing at Royal Ascot in the Group 3 Hampton Court Stakes and that is enough to make Running Lion a confident pick for the feature contest at Salisbury.

Skukuza can shed maiden tag at Yarmouth

Afternoon fare also comes from Yarmouth and trainer Ed Dunlop will be carrying high hopes that his colt SKUKUZA can enter the winner's enclosure at the second time of asking.

The Blue Point colt was an unwanted 66/1 chance on debut in a Newbury novice last month but he ran well under an aggressive ride from Neil Callan. Skukuza wilted late on as odds-on favourite Warm Spell came through to score for Roger Varian, but Skukuza remained more than two lengths clear of the rest in what was a pleasing first run.

Those that have emerged from that race to run again have held up the form in a positive light and there should be some improvement to come from Skukuza on his second start.

Trainer Dunlop boasts a 31 per cent strike rate across recent weeks, and he could get another winner on the board here.

Dods' charge to bounce back

The Michael Dods-trained BERRY EDGE had produced three good efforts in defeat prior to last month's disappointment at Ayr (1m2f, good to soft).

The Mukhadram gelding finished a close third at the Scottish track in May on his first start since October, and he followed that up with runners-up efforts over the same track and trip and then over C&D at Beverley in June, latterly in a pair of first-time blinkers.

He probably hit the front too soon last time, reaching the head of the race with three furlongs still to travel, but from a 1lb lower mark and back at a track where he has posted a win, two seconds and a close fourth in his four previous starts, he can quickly banish the memory of that run.
