Lampang

I can’t believe we’re in September and it’s St Leger week, where has this flat season gone?

Day one kicks off with a competitive card and it’s Lampang in the first race that I’m hoping gets the week off to a winning start. There are only four declared, with three of those having only raced once. All of those tasted victory on their sole runs but, of the three, it was Lampang that I was most impressed with.

His very shrewd trainer Tim Easterby gave this horse a special mention in a stable tour feature earlier in the season. While we didn’t see him until very recently, he was well backed on debut and flew home from an unpromising position at Carlisle.

That day, he looked as though he’d love the long straight at Doncaster and should be able to take this conditions’ race on the way to better things under champion jockey-elect Oisin Murphy.

Daschas

The last race of the day is a competitive sprint handicap over five furlongs and there are plenty you could make a case for.

Daschas stands out as one to back for Stuart Williams and the in-form apprentice Marco Ghiani, who has a very valuable seven pounds claim. Ghiani has partnered Daschas in three of his last four starts including when they won off just a one-pound higher mark at Windsor in July.

His most recent run was at Sandown Park just over a week ago in the Play 4 To Score at Betway Handicap when he got going too late, but stayed on eye-catchingly.

He looks set to run a big race in what looks a great opportunity for the pair to get back to winning ways.
