13:55 – Justanotherbottle 

Declan Carroll doesn’t have the largest stable in the UK, but he does really well with the horses that he has in his care.

Justanotherbottle is a prime example. He was so unlucky in the Stewards' Cup last year when narrowly touched off by Gifted Master, and ran very well in defeat this year when finishing fifth, four lengths behind Khaadem.

He runs in the opening race at York off a mark of 96 – his lowest mark in well over a year – and, granted a good start, should be hard to peg back in the hands of James Doyle.

14:25 – Persuasion 

The Acomb Stakes looks particularly tough with eight of the 10 runners winning on their last start. 

None took my eye more than Persuasion first time out at Goodwood, when he stormed to victory in the style of a really good horse.

A lot of the racing fraternity went wild when Visinari clocked an impressive time on debut and recorded a Topspeed rating of 98, but Persuasion can better that with a rating of 100 and deserves to be spoken about in the same breath.

Charlie Hills has his horses in grand form and is looking for a third victory in six years in this race, following the success of Phoenix of Spain last year and Dutch Connection in 2014. Both went on to be renowned Group-race performers.

Granted normal improvement from a first to a second run, this son of Acclamation should be hard to beat.
