Weekend horse racing tips for Doncaster and Catterick
With money back as a free bet if your horse finishes second on all ITV races and a £10k jackpot in 4 To Win, our tipster makes his picks for Doncaster.
SUNDAY
16:00 Catterick – No Word Of A Lie – (each way)
Make no mistake, this bumper race is a hot contest. You couldn’t have been more impressed with the way that No Word Of A Lie travelled and then stayed on past beaten horses at Exeter on his debut earlier this month.
He was very green that day and would have learned plenty for the experience. I expect him to go close with that race under his belt.
SATURDAY
12:55 Doncaster – Mercutio Rock (each way)
In three starts this season, Mercutio Rock has been an eye-catcher on each. His latest at Uttoxeter signalled that this step up in trip would be happening sooner rather than later.
He’s a strong travelling horse who will be suited by this fair, flat track and, providing he runs to the same level of form as he’s shown previously, he could make a mockery of his opening mark of 112.
16:25 Doncaster - Step To The Top (win)
For followers of my columns, you may remember Step To The Top from my Horses To Follow list that was produced at the start of this National Hunt season. It’s been a long time coming this year, but she’s finally out on the racecourse.
While it looks like a competitive race, her form from last season has been franked numerous times. If she is in the same form as her second at Warwick or her second in a Listed Mares bumper at Kempton last March, she should take all the beating.
14:40 Doncaster – Fern Hill
Fern Hill looks like an out-and-out stayer who’ll appreciate this step up in trip. He’s two from three this season and I expect him to go well, despite being upped in class.
15:15 Doncaster – One For The Team
One For The Team has shaped as though he’ll want further than this trip in time, but he stayed on well in Grade 1 Novice Chase over Christmas. Down in class, he can go well under Tom Scudamore.
15:50 Doncaster – Who's In The Box
Who’s In The Box is lightly raced and still improving judged on his success at Market Rasen last time out. He’s dropped in trip, but they’ll go quick enough to ensure it’s a test of stamina here.
16:05 Lingfield – Shaqeeqa
Shaqeeqa is still learning on the job, but the penny dropped late at Wolverhampton last time and I’m sure there is improvement to come from her. Laura Pearson, who is racing’s most exciting new rider, takes off a very valuable 5lb.
